Freedom Run 2-mile walk/run, 4-mile run & kid’s race—Woodward Park
When: Wednesday, July 4
Cost: $30 (prices increase July 1)
The Sierra Challenge Express Running Club hosts this Independence Day race at Fresno’s Woodward Park. Funds raised benefit the Central Valley Honor Flight. The fun gets underway at 7 a.m., making it a great way to kick off your 4th of July holiday. The course will be lined with American flags. Participants will receive a t-shirt, ice cream, watermelon, and a cold wet towel will be waiting for you at the finish line. I’m told the 2-mile trail is stroller friendly.
Taco Tuesday Summer 5K Series—Woodward Park
When: Tuesday, July 10
Cost: $10 (additional fee of $5 for tacos and drink)
Who doesn’t love Taco Tuesday?! Throughout the summer there will be 5K races taking place at Woodward Park on Tuesday evenings. The July 10 event is 80s themed, so break out the neon! The race starts at 7 p.m.. Participants can indulge in tacos and soft drinks at the finish line.
Christmas in July 5K walk/run—Christmas Tree Lane
When: Saturday, July 14
Cost: $35 (prices increase July 1)
Fans of the annual Jingle Bell Run won’t want to miss the summer version of this popular race. Run down shaded Christmas Tree Lane in July. Santa will be there! You’ll receive a t-shirt and finisher’s medallion. This is part of the Summer Run Series. Proceeds benefit the Boys and Girls Club.
Taco Tuesday Summer 5K Series—Woodward Park
When: Tuesday, July 24
Cost: $10 (additional fee of $5 for tacos and drink)
Taco Tuesday returns to Woodward Park with “Pop Singers” night. So find your inner Britney or Madonna for this fun nighttime race.
Miguel Reyes Elite/Open 5K run—Woodward Park
When: Saturday, July 28
Cost: $40, $25 for students, $20 for kids 10 and under (prices increase July 27)
This race at Fresno’s Woodward Park honors competitive racer Miguel Reyes who passed away in 2015. $8,500 in prize money will be given away. Participants will enjoy pancakes and ice cream post-race. There will also be Mexican Folkloric Dance.
