Featured Game: Clovis North @ Clovis East October 17th, 2014
The weather cleared up nicely for a TRAC matchup at Lamonica Stadium. The stadium was covered in pink as the Clovis East Timberwolves played host to the Clovis North Broncos.

Clovis East is coming into this contest with a 1-5 record and ranked 49 in the Central Section. Their only win came in Week 1 @ Golden Valley. Clovis East has a difficult schedule, and has had some tough luck. Three of their losses were by a touchdown or less; so this team could have easily been 4-2 right now. If Clovis East can somehow pull out a win tonight, they will still have a chance to finish the season with an even 5-5 record. But the remaining games will not be easy as they are all against top 25 ranked teams. The Timberwolves need to finish strong if they want to avoid their sixth straight losing season.

Clovis North is ranked number 5 in the central section, despite not having a winning record. They have the most difficult schedule out of every team in the central section, and have beaten some respectable teams. They lost to number one ranked Edison by a point. Their final games of the regular season are against teams they “should” beat; so there’s no reason why they should lose any more games this season. Bolu Olorunfunmi is their star running back, and leads the team in scoring. Clovis North is a very talented team, who has played some close games. If they win the rest of their games for the season, this talented team will do themselves justice with a 7-3 record to end the regular season.

Clovis East wore special pink uniforms to bring awareness to breast cancer. They began the game with the ball, and started out hot. Their first drive lasted five minutes and 39 seconds, and was capped off with an eight yard screen pass touchdown. Tanner Tucker caught the screen pass from Trey Semien, the followed his blocked for the easy touchdown (7-0). The drive featured: confident and creative plays, hard running by Marcus Washington, and elusive pocket scrambling by quarterback Trey Semien.

Reality quickly set in for the Timberwolves, as the Broncos quickly scored on the following drive. One big pass from Austin Autry then a speedy 29 yard touchdown run for Cody Branch tied the game in only 33 seconds (7-7). After Clovis East’s Trey Semien threw an interception to give Clovis North the ball back, Bolu Olorunfunmi burned the defense for a 42 yard touchdown run (14-7). Clovis East answered back with the help of some big Marcus Washington runs. Washington finished off his own drive when he ran it up the middle for a five yard touchdown run (14-14).

Clovis North went scored their third touchdown on their third drive when Bransin Johnson caught an accurately thrown 15 yard touchdown pass from Austin Autry in the back corner of the end zone(21-14). The scoring drive was set up by successful runs by Bolu Olorunfunmi. The Broncos next drive also ended in a touchdown, as Bolu Olorunfunmi followed his blocks to run it in for an 11 yard touchdown; his second touchdown of the game. The failed extra point made the score (27-14).

Trey Semien had a good following drive as he and Marcus Washington led the Timberwolves to a bounce back touchdown. Marcus Washington received the carry on a draw play that led to a 20 yard touchdown run (27-21). After that, it was all Clovis North. The broncos go on to score 36 unanswered points; including 3 touchdown runs by Bolu Olorunfunmi, and an impressive 42 yard touchdown pass by Austin Autry to Noruwa Obanor. Weston Hatcher also had a 2 yard touchdown run.The game’s final score was a 6 yard touchdown run by Clovis East’s Marcus Washington. The one-sided game was over; Clovis North defeated Clovis East 63-28. Clovis North improves to 4-3, Clovis East drops to 1-6.

Clovis North was connecting on all cylinders; they scored a touchdown on every drive they were able to score on. Austin Autry is a pro-style quarterback. He has size, vision, and big time accuracy. Bolu Olorunfunmi makes the run look fun. He was very entertaining to watch. He has good balance, vision, and can change speeds while he is running. These three assets make him very hard to tackle. He is a very dominant running back that will have no problem competing at the next level. The Broncos only blunder would be the defense if I had to choose something. They gave up a considerable amount of yards to a non-ranked team. They need to improve the defense if they want to compete against top ten caliber teams.

Clovis East lost their sixth straight game, and will suffer a sixth straight losing season. They showed intensity on offense, but were unable to keep that intensity up. Marcus Washington and Trey Semien are two talented players; they need a better supporting cast. This team has potential to win more games than they show for. The defense was unable to stop Clovis North, so they will need to improve on their tackling and pressure.
