Last week I wrote about Taipei 101, a new coffee and tea shop that recently opened in Fresno. It’s actually one of several new establishments in the area that serve up similar offerings. This week my sons and I went to check out Quickly.
Located on Shaw Avenue in Clovis, Quickly is part of a worldwide chain that opened its first US store in Southern California in 2002. According to the company’s website, they are now the largest bubble tea chain store in the United States.
I was met with resistance when I told my sons the day’s plan included leaving the house to get tea. Apparently, leaving Minecraft even for an hour is a true hardship. Still, I pressed on in the name of journalism.
Quickly is located on Shaw Ave, just east of Willow. Although it does have some tables and TVs for those who choose to dine in, it has a decidedly more takeout vibe than Taipei 101. Their specialty coffees, teas, and slushes start at $2.99 for the regular size and $3.49 for the large. Additional add-ons like tapioca balls, jellies, puddings, fruit, and whipped cream are an additional .50 each. Premium brewed teas start at $3.49. Quickly also has a “snack menu” (appetizer-like items like fries, egg rolls, and popcorn chicken available à la carte or as part of a combo that includes a regular-sized specialty drink) as well as a daily bento box special (priced at $7.99). They even offer phone ordering and catering.
My sons opted to order slushes this time around. From the extensive flavor menu, one chose grapefruit and the other chose blueberry. Because I am very predictable, I ordered the iced coffee.
Quickly’s tagline is “Fast, Delicious, Convenient.” One of the reasons Quickly’s service is so quick is because many of the bases for their specialty drinks are already pre-made. My iced coffee, for instance, was pre-sweetened with what tasted like milk and vanilla-flavoring. It was sweet but, unlike many pre-sweetened iced coffees I’ve tried, lacked a chemical aftertaste.

My kids reviewed their slushes as such:
The 12-year old: “Oooooh, I’d come here again.”
The 9-year old: “Mmmmm. Good.”
Which is pretty high praise from a couple of kids who were reluctant to leave the house.

With its location near Fresno State and late hours, I can see Quickly becoming popular with the college crowd as well as those in search of a quick snack after an evening movie at the nearby Maya Cinemas.
