When it comes to outdoors sporting goods stores here in FresYes for a long time there was only one real specialty store if you wanted hunting equipment.
That store has some fishing and camping gear as well but the selection was modest at best although the quality was the best. In recent years the big boxes came in with lower prices and more of some items but they in reality were not where you got the best of the best. Great prices perhaps but not the best but we all know you get what you pay for.
For a long time I would wait to shop until I went to up north and past the Bass Pro shops because BP really is the Disneyland of outdoor shops and very hard to compare anything else to it.
Yet, this week another option opened up right in the north end of town with the grand opening of the Sportsman’s Warehouse.
Does this make my road trips obsolete?
Being the outdoors guy I had to go look… right?
Pulling into the parking lot my first impression was “it’s not that big” and it didn’t seem that busy from the parking lot view. I mean yes there were a lot of cars but nothing like Riverpark or the Mall so I quickly parked and walked my way happily to the front of the store.
Upon walking in I had to stop, look around and say WOW, good job Sportsman’s Warehouse. The isles were packed like Costco on a Saturday morning before a Fresno State Football game. Walking around I couldn’t help but enjoy the new car smell of a brand new product filled with well… brand new products.
I took them to task looking for specialty gear down each and every isle knowing that in the past I would have to make 3 stops to fill by order before I head into the back country.
