Last week, the Fresno Arts Council unveiled the winning design for next year’s ArtHop logo. Inspired by Fulton Street’s revitalization, it’s pretty awesome!
Of course, behind every great design is a great designer. Joe Verduzco won the contest, the $500 prize, and bragging rights for the year. Expect to see his design around town at ArtHop venues and on Fresno Arts Council materials.
Honestly, ArtHop is one of my favorite things to do in FresYes. It happens twice monthly—the first Thursday of the month is the downtown/Tower District ArtHop, and the third Thursday ArtHop takes place in venues in other parts of Fresno. If you’re new to ArtHop, you can get tips on how to attend by clicking here and checking out my beginner’s guide.
Meanwhile, check out my interview with Joe Verduzco to learn all about the guy behind the new ArtHop logo.
FresYes: First of all, could you tell us a little about yourself?
Joe Verduzco: My name is Joseph Verduzco, and I mostly go by Joe. I am currently employed by The Business Journal in Fresno; I’m a Production Manager there. My position requires me to do a lot of graphic design. I currently reside in downtown Fresno on Fulton Street, at the heart of all the ArtHop happenings. I enjoy art, of course, hiking, concerts, and spending time with my 8-year-old daughter.
What is your background in design/art?
I studied graphic design at Fresno State and have been doing freelance work ever since high school. I have always had a passion for art and enjoy drawing and painting as well. I chose to go into the graphic design field because I saw more career opportunities there than traditional art.
Why did you decide to enter the logo contest?
I felt excited at the opportunity to not only showcase my talent but be a part of the growing ArtHop community. I feel like it would be a shame not to enter. I see the current logo everywhere and I was excited at the possibility that mine could be seen by so many eyes as well. The cash prize wasn’t a bad incentive either. 😉
What inspired your design?
The revitalization of Fulton Street and downtown Fresno is the main factor of my design inspiration. There is so much rich history here and I feel I needed that to be the staple of the design. To have that vintage, clean, and classy feel along with a bold, eye-catchy touch.
How does it feel to win?
It feels insanely cool! Just feels like an honor to be the first winner of a contest like this and I’m just extremely grateful to be given the opportunity.
