Calling all filmmakers: If you’re looking for a fun and fast-paced competition, look no further than the CMAC 12 Hour Film Race.
The Community Media Access Collaborative (CMAC) is challenging students, amateurs, and professionals to create a 3- to 5-minute short film in just 12 hours. You’ll go head-to-head with other teams, writing, shooting, and editing a film that adheres to a theme with specific elements. The top three films will receive cash prizes.
The challenge kicks off on Saturday, Sept. 30 at 9 a.m. at CMAC, 1555 Van Ness Ave. in Fresno. You’ll have until 9 p.m. the same day to complete your film. The themes and specific elements will be assigned to each team 15 minutes prior to the kick-off. Each short film will be judged by a panel consisting of members of CMAC’s Board of Directors and staff.
“The film race is open to anyone, from high school and college students to amateur filmmakers, to local professionals,” says Jerry Lee, Executive Director of CMAC. “It’s a great opportunity to be creative and competitive.”
Teams can consist of one or more people. The team leader must register for the competition before Wednesday, Sept. 27.
On Monday, Sept. 25, an informational meeting will take place at CMAC for people who have questions about the competition or are looking for a team to work with. It’s not mandatory to attend this meeting in order to enter the competition.
Free screening for completed films
All films completed in time will be screened at a free special event on Thursday, Oct. 5 at 6 p.m. at CMAC. Following the screening, the judges’ results will be announced and cash prizes will be awarded: $500 for 1st place, $250 for 2nd place, and $100 for 3rd place.
There is no entry fee to participate in the film race—it’s absolutely free. For more information, a complete list of rules and guidelines, and to register for the CMAC 12 Hour Film Race, visit http://cmac.tv/film-race/.
