1. Workspace Speakers Series: Sam Hansen
Workspace is kicking off its monthly mixer and speaker series tonight from 6-9 p.m. with a talk from the marketing genius behind the Fresno Grizzlies and Taco Truck Throwdown, Sam Hansen. Go to hear Sam talk about his experience and plans for the future, stay for the views of downtown Fresno from the Pacific Southwest Building. [Details]
2. Islamic Cultural Center of Fresno Benefit
This fundraising event will feature readings, music from Fatty Cakes and the Puff Pastries, card making, and a raffle to raise funds, as well as show love, for the ICCF and the refugee families they support. It will take place from 6-10 p.m. at 370 N. Fresno St. in Fresno. Entry is a $5-7 donation. [Details]
3. David Bowie Celebration
Celebrate the music of David Bowie tonight at Strummer’s with DJ Conor Miles at 10 p.m. at Strummer’s in the Tower District. This free event is 21+. [Details]
4. Introduction to Historical Sabre Fencing
Wanna learn the fighting techniques of military sabre as they were historically taught? Of course you do. Show up at Aikido of Fresno Saturday at 9 a.m. (and the two Saturdays after), and you’ll be on your way. [Details]
5. Snow Weekend
We covered the Discovery Center’s quest for expansion and its need for community help earlier this week. The Snow Weekend event, taking place Saturday and Sunday from 9:30-11:30 a.m., will allow kids to play in the snow, learn about how animals stay warm, and drink hot chocolate, with proceeds going toward renovation of the center’s water exhibit. 6. Fulton Walking Tours: VIEWS
FresYes writer Craig Scharton will take his monthly walking tour to new heights Saturday from 9:30-11:30 a.m.—namely, from the roofs of three buildings overlooking Fulton Street. Bring your camera, a friend or two, and a good pair of walking shoes. [Details]
7. 4th Annual Bizare Art Festival
This event honors the life of local artist Lord Bizare68 with performers, aerosol artists creating live art, vendors, raffles, and a kids area. 8. 2017 Rogue Festival Muse Reveal
Every year, a work of art is chosen to be the Rogue Festival Muse—the face of the two-week festival. This year’s Muse was created by Bryan Pickens and will be revealed Tuesday from 7-8 p.m. at Goldstein’s Mortuary and Delicatessen in the Tower District. [Details]
9. Glass Blowing Workshop
Valentine’s Day is coming up and what better gift to give a loved one than a glass heart paperweight you made yourself? Class is Wednesday from 5-9 p.m. at Fresno Ideaworks in Downtown Fresno. [Details]
10. Hot Stove Gala
It’s time for the Fresno Grizzlies’ annual fundraiser, Hot Stove Gala. Last week, we covered the importance of this event, which raises money for all of the charitable programs supported by the Grizzlies Community Fund. This year’s event takes place Thursday from 5-9 p.m. at the Fresno Convention Center. [Details]
