So summer is about 1/2(or more) over. Now is when our minds slowly turn back to school. That means school supplies, clothes, and … academics.
This is the moment you may realize that your kids haven’t read a book all summer. Oh no! But have no fear. You will be getting your kids reading and back on track for school in no time. And you won’t have to threaten or cajole. Enter the summer reading programs! (And if your kids have been reading the whole time just look at this as a way to get great prizes;)
1) Fresno County Library – The Fresno County Library always has a great summer reading program. It is simple and straight forward! This program is for kids all the way through high school. The student just has to go into any branch to register and get their book log. After they read 2 books they claim their first prize. And then they can get a prize for every 2 books until they have received 4 prizes total. When they have read 10 books they turn in their log for a chance at winning a Kindle fire!
And you parents aren’t left out of the reading fun. There is also an adult program where you do certain tasks to earn entries for another Kindle Fire drawing. Things like downloading Zinio, requesting a book, and more.
But hurry, the program ends August 2nd!
2) Barnes & Noble: Imaginations Destination – This program is for 1st through 6th grades. You either pick up a log at Barnes & Noble or just print it off from their site. Then the students just need to read 8 books to receive 1 free. They have a list of books to choose from, based on grade level. You have until September 7, 2015 to turn in your reading logs for the free book!
3) Chuck E. Cheese – This isn’t a true summer reading program but Chuck E. Cheese has a variety of incentive certificates. Reading for 2 weeks is one of them. Just bring the filled out paper (that you can print off) into Chuck E. Cheese for ten tokens.
That is a look at the summer reading programs that are still going on here in Fresno. So pull those kids off the video games and get them reading!
