We are so excited to bring you this interview with Cory. You see, Cory Mayo has truly excelled in collaborating with Fresyes on various projects. Notably, he played a pivotal role in our exceptional Fresno Flavor series, as well as contributing to the production of captivating lifestyle videos showcasing properties we have successfully sold. One standout example of his work is the impressive video featuring a property on Academy Oaks Lane.
So tell us, who are you, where did you come from, and what do you do?
Hello, I’m Cory Mayo, a photographer based in Fresno, CA. Although I was born in Oklahoma, I have spent the majority of my life in Fresno and consider it my hometown. My passion lies in portrait photography and using a documentary-style approach to tell captivating stories for brands and businesses through video.
Tell us about your business
I started my media business in 2019 after falling in love with the local music scene. I would travel with friends capturing live music, sharing photos, and learning to start telling photo stories through my friends and their art. I am inspired by movies and music. Sometimes I can visualize a whole video by just listening to the music. I love that it is a universal language across many cultures that we all share an emotional bond and connection. Brings us all together in an experience. My passion for video started later after filming weddings I grew to love telling stories through video.
Tell us about something that you do that makes you stand out
I think after some years spent capturing many people’s portraits or creating mini-documentaries about businesses. I think I have a great ability to craft a story from my genuine curiosity. In today’s media people do not want to be fed a bullshit ad or something so fake. They want to build a relationship with the brand and get to know them through long-format content and stories. I have always been interested in what makes a business, who people are, and what unique characteristics they have. As a photographer, you have to be intentional about what you want to capture. Really have something to say to the world. I love giving a voice to those needing it and connecting customers to the professionals that they are looking for.
What is it that most people DON’T know about your business?
I only take on a few clients at a time. This is something that is not typical with media businesses. I pride myself on being selective about how many clients I help so I can make the biggest impact on my current projects and be available when creativity strikes.
My wife Becki Mayo is incredible and although the business name is Cory Mayo Media she has always been a key part of my business. She has a deep knowledge of social media and marketing tone when it comes to ad campaigns and she is also a wizard in graphic design. I wouldn’t be where I am today without her help.
Anything coming up?
I have received some interest from aspiring photographers in learning new skills to apply to their photography/video business. So be on the lookout for a new education program from me in the near future.
