Tacos, Brews and Jams
If you’ve been reading FresYes.com for any length of time, my hope is that you’ve come to see at least a few of the many reasons we (the FresYes writing crew? Squad? Posse? Eh, Writers.) love calling Fresno our home.
Years ago, I remember stumbling onto the Fresno Beehive, which in case you were unaware, is the Fresno Bee’s pop culture entertainment and “all things Fresno” blog. Written by a group of Bee writers, but with a more casual tone, the site became a portal to fun, local events (and later, local friendships with others with a pro-Fresno mindset, through Beehive “Tweet Ups” and events) for my husband and I, and soon we found ourselves having to choose between events to attend, rather than looking for an event.
Why do I share this backstory? The reason is simple: I want everyone in Fresno to know that there are a LOT of great things to do in Fresno! You just have to know where to find out about them – and once you do, you have to support them and attend, so those working hard to make fun events happen, know you want them to keep up the good work.
So – are you ready to check out one of said awesome local events this week? You’re in luck – because it’s TB&J week!
TB&J is short for Tacos, Brews and Jams. A monthly event, hosted by Tioga Sequoia Brewery, New Rock 104 and Mike Osegueda, (aka Mike Oz, former Beehive writer, current Yahoo Sports Big League Stew writer & Ozmosis radio show host and founder of the Taco Truck Throwdown, held annually at Chukchansi Park) Tacos, Brews and Jams offers live music, locally brewed craft beers and as you might have guessed – tasty tacos, once a month in Downtown Fresno.
Each monthly TB&J event offers Fresnans the chance to enjoy a different band, authentic and tasty tacos sold by mobile vendors – and Tioga Sequoia beer of course. This month’s featured band is Personal Computer, a synth pop duo that “traded in their guitars for keyboards and computers” six months ago, and has since developed a sound fan Cristobal Carillo of the Spanspek Music Arts Festival has described on their Facebook page as, “Daft Punk filtered through a John Hughes movie… instantly nostalgic and infinitely joyous.” Taco vendors this month include Tacos Boys and Angelita’s Mobil Taqueria. If enjoying tunes and a taco with a cold one in hand doesn’t sound like a fantastic way to unwind as you look forward to the weekend on a Thursday night, this week’s TB&J will also offer a side helping of retail therapy — Dear Danger’s mobile boutique (a unique and fabulous shopping experience on wheels! Check out Joanne’s review on our site here) will also be there!
If you want to enjoy all of the good Fresno has to offer, sometimes all it takes is finding an event and diving in – and TB&J is the perfect opportunity to do just that.
For more awesome local events, be sure to check the FresYes.com event calendar frequently — it’s updated all the time, and the list of events is continually growing!
