A little over a year and a half ago, Fresno was home to an extraordinary vegan food truck named Planet Vegan, renowned for dishing out some of the most delectable, succulent burgers and generously topped fries one could discover anywhere – all while being entirely vegan. Planet Vegan had a knack for convincing even the staunchest meat lovers that a vegan burger could indeed be exceptionally delicious. Then, in an unforeseen twist of fate, an explosion devastated the truck, resulting in serious injuries to two members of the Planet Vegan team and the complete destruction of the food truck within mere moments. This event marked a significant setback for the family-operated, community-loved enterprise, initiating a challenging recovery journey and casting a shadow of sadness over all who cherished and supported Planet Vegan.
However, this tale is now pivoting towards a hopeful and bright future for the Planet Vegan crew. Assisted by unwavering community support, Planet Vegan has made a triumphant return – this time, by launching their first-ever brick and mortar restaurant situated in the GB3 shopping center at Palm & Nees.
The restaurant, which opened its doors this January, located on the north side of the shopping center in front of Popolo’s Pizza and offers indoor seating, a counter-service model, and an upcoming outdoor dining option. The menu proudly presents an all-encompassing plant-based and vegan selection. Among their burger offerings are the hearty, classic-style single or double burgers, the Saturn Burger – a plant-based take on a western-style barbecue burger adorned with crispy vegan bacon, the Big Dipper – a substantial double burger with an extra bun in the mix, and the Jupiter Love, a delight served on toasted sourdough bread.
Beyond burgers, their plant-based chicken selections, such as the Spicy Chik’n Sando, nuggets, and a Chop Caesar Salad adorned with Chik’n, are sure to please. For side dishes, hungry customers can enjoy “Crater” Tots, Waffle Fries, and thick-cut, crisply fried Sweet Potato Fries. A crowd-pleaser, the Galaxy Fries, feature loaded Waffle Fries topped with chopped plant-based burger and sauces, and they also offer loaded Buffalo Chik’n Fries.
Planet Vegan accommodates a variety of dining preferences with dine-in, take-out, and online ordering options, including delivery via DoorDash and GrubHub. They welcome guests every day except Mondays, and their ready to satiate your cravings whether you typically follow a vegan diet or not. I hope our community maintains its strong support for Planet Vegan – the team’s dedication to their menu and new restaurant is apparent, and their culinary creations are irresistibly tasty. Their offerings have even inspired me to contemplate incorporating more plant-based meats into my diet. I strongly urge you to plan a visit soon – your taste buds (& the planet) will thank you!
