Did you go to Boomers as a teen? If you’re my age, chances are you didn’t – because you went to Camelot Park instead. 😉 (Same place, previous name for you young whipper-snappers.) What do you remember? Miniature golfing with a few friends? (Until someone gave up and cheated, admit it.) Playing Dance, Dance Revolution until you were too sweaty to be around other people? Odds are your memories there stopped shortly after your early teens, however, I’ve got to say as the mom of an 8 year old boy – there’s still a lot of fun to be had there!
Last week was the final week of summer vacation and I wanted to do something special with my son. I thought it would be fun to take him to drive go-carts, since 8-year-olds typically don’t get to drive much and well, he plays some mean Mario Kart. I did what I typically do and started Googling places to drive go-carts in Fresno and was faced with three options: MB2 Racing, Blackbeard’s and Boomers. Boomers was closest to home, so I got on their website and after poking around a bit, discovered they have a pretty generous email discount program. Within moments of signing up, I received two coupons – one for a free $10 worth game/attraction points and a buy one attraction, get one free. At this point, I officially unveiled my plan for the day to my kiddo and he was more than excited to learn where we would be spending the afternoon.
Once we got to Boomers, my son took a look around and decided he actually wanted to play Laser Tag and Air Hockey more than he wanted to drive go-carts (glad we skipped MB2 this time, because I think he was a little scared about driving on his own, and this mama was hoping not to have to be a passenger for the entire time). Seeing as it was his day, of course I obliged. Our coupons went to great use and I saw my son’s face light up so many times!

We both enjoyed several rounds of some of my favorite old school arcade games, Ms. PacMan, Hydro Thunder and of course, that aggravating and seemingly easy one where you try to hit the button to stop the moving light in justtherightspot to win lots and lots of tickets. (We won 7 tickets. Don’t be jealous.)
We also had a blast squaring off in three matches of Air Hockey (I went two for three, go team mom!) and we burned calories and laughed hysterically while running around and shooting at each other (safely) in the Laser Tag room. The afternoon was capped with two white cherry Icees (my favorite – the white ones don’t stain your teeth!) and an “usie” on our way out the door to commemorate our fun day.

If you have a son who loves to play games, you really ought revisit your “Camelot” days at Boomers with him. I bet you’ll both have a blast, and he’ll remember it for a long time to come. (Don’t forget to follow the link above for the coupons, too!)

Boomers is located at 7354 N. Abbey Street in Fresno near the Riverpark Kohl’s store. Clovis Unified families – I highly recommend you take advantage of the quiet, remaining summer weekdays there before heading back to school next week! You might get Laser Tag all to yourself if you’re lucky!
