One of my favorite things to do when I have some free time is to wander different parts of Fresno, because you never know what you might discover. I even found this to be the case recently at River Park, where I would have sworn I knew every single thing that was going on. I was shocked to realize that some shops have popped up at the parking garage, right across from Coney Island! And because you know that as soon as I fall in love with something, I can’t stop talking about it, today I’m going to tell you all about a new boutique I found there!
Three Graces
Since opening in October, Jennifer has stocked her shop with jewelry that carries meaningful messages or words, as well as decor and small items that she finds to be extra special that can perhaps be passed on through the generations.
“A treasure is all about what is the meaning to it and the history to it, and I think that’s what makes it your timeless treasure,” Jennifer said.
What’s more, the items you buy are made special by the fact that Jennifer makes a conscious effort to carry lines that other stores aren’t selling, and to stock only a few of each thing at a time.
‘If I carry it again it’ll … take a few months before I’ll even bring it back. I want to keep items special, unique,” Jennifer said. “Those people wearing them or buying it or putting it in your house [I want them to] to feel like, ‘I got something special here.’ You’re not gonna be able to go just in any store and be able to find it.”
The name Three Graces comes from Greek mythology, which is an interest of Jennifer’s. The Three Graces represented beauty, grace and charm, and were created to fill the world with joy and goodwill. Accordingly, the store was a bit of an ethereal quality to it, with decor and jewelry hanging from branches and a fountain against the wall. (The trees are totally for sale, by the way!)
“I want when you come into this store not for it to feel so commercialized,” Jennifer said. “My vision of it is really more an enchanted forest, with my delicate touches of Greek decor around the room. And you just feel peaceful, and you can feel that touch of myth and magic.”
Perhaps it is a combination of this, the meaningful pieces for sale and Jennifer’s warmth that causes people to open up when they come into Three Graces. (I can tell you that we were basically best friends after 5 minutes, but that might also be because I have a talking problem!) In any case, Jennifer loves sharing these moments in her customers’ lives. People buy the jewelry for all kinds of reasons, whether it’s to commemorate a special moment or encourage a friend who is having a tough time.
“The meaningful jewelry, people like talking about that, why it’s meaningful,” Jennifer said. “And it’s this conversation starter. I enjoy hearing those stories. It makes what I’m doing that much more special.”
If you’re looking for a special piece at Three Graces, there are a plethora of choices. There are necklaces that have hidden meaning, like a serenity blessing bracelet or a necklace that has “To Thine Own Self Be True” written in morse code.
There also also pieces from the popular Fresno-based jewelry company Make Pie Not War (featured on FresYes recently) that can only be found locally at Three Graces, including a necklace that has Fresno’s coordinates stamped on it.
After being away from her hometown for many years and returning to discover her love for it again, Jennifer wants to make it a point to carry local artisans’ work in her store. Right now, in addition to Make Pie Not War necklaces, Three Graces also sells jewelry from a gal who went to Fresno State, (delicious smelling) bath bombs and soaps from local company Amber House Soaps and adorable wooden reindeer made by a Fresno artist. Plus, there is beautiful beaded jewelry made by Jennifer’s mother and sister.
“The more I explore the local talent, the more I felt like this has to represented. People need to be aware [that] this is what we have here. We’re all going and looking elsewhere,” Jennifer said. “We’re a talented, smart, amazing community.”
And because you ARE smart, amazing community here are FresYes, I KNOW you’re going to visit Three Graces soon, especially if you haven’t bought your Christmas presents yet! You can find out more about the holiday deals Jennifer is offering on the store’s Facebook and Instagram pages.
