Growing up in Fresno I’ve always had an affinity for Fig Garden Village. Fig Garden Village has been around for a very long time. Even though stores have come and gone, there is still a community sense to the area. On any given night you can see groups of families, and/or groups of kids just hanging out and having a good time. I often see people (even some regulars) hanging out at Starbucks, Uncle Harry’s Bagelry, Jamba Juice, and the Patio Cafe. I had a friend take me to the Patio Cafe about a year ago. It was the first time I had been there, which is surprising to me because I’ve been to almost all the places in Fig Garden. At any rate, the food was yummy, and the service was quick and friendly. After that visit I promised that I would go back more often, However, I never made it back until recently.
A couple of weeks ago I wanted to treat my grandmother to lunch. My grandmother likes little cafe type places, so I knew that the Patio Cafe would be perfect for her. We got there right around lunchtime, and I thought it was going to be super busy. Thankfully, we beat the lunch rush by mere minutes! When you first walk in you’re taken aback by the colors, which are so appealing to the eyes. The ambiance was cozy and welcoming. The walls were brightly colored orange and teal, and there was one wall with a fully painted art scene for all to admire. There were various colored tabled cloths at each table, as well as mason jars with real flowers sitting on the tables. The server told us we could sit wherever we wanted, which was nice. We decided to sit inside, but there is a nice outside seating area, perfect for enjoying a good meal with friends. The service was fast, yet friendly, and we didn’t feel like we were being rushed at all. It was nice afternoon to just sit together, chat, and enjoy our food.
My grandmother ended up really liking the place. The food was good, and the portions were big enough for her to take home half of her sandwich to my grandfather. As an added bonus, the Patio Cafe has a special menu with items that are low in calories and carbs, because I know for many people who are dieting eating out can sometimes be difficult. I happened to order something off that menu unintentionally (the Mediterranean Chicken Salad), and it was so fulfilling and healthy! Even if you’re not dieting, per se, you can still eat healthy. The Patio Cafe gets food from our local farms, which means the ingredients are fresh and well, local! What a great way to support our community! Also, the eggs are from cage free chickens, which is something that’s important to me.
Patio Cafe is located by the post office, towards the back of Fig Garden Village.
