Christmas Tamales!
DeeAnn Holguin from Taste the Tradition Catering says it best, “You can learn a lot growing up in a restaurant”. Have you ever worked in the restaurant business? Let’s face it – It is a real eye-opener. You hear numerous stories on how customers and employees are treated. But, lets take a spin on that!

You also learn compassion, the gift of service to others, how to bring a smile to someone’s face, and watching the cooks doing what they love! And, all of those little passionate things you see, well, they all started when you where little watching your family members cook.
My friend DeeAnn Holguin and her delicious tamales and authentic Mexican food is sharing her love and passion for cooking with us, and showing others that love through her catering company, “Taste the Traditions”. It is a small catering company like no other. It all started with one of her famous dishes, The Christmas Tamale! DeeAnn’s tamale recipe is pure love and she sells them only at Christmas time, it was a family recipe that was handed down from her grandmother, to her mom, and now her!
This Mexican tradition has been around for generations. Whether you love beef, chicken or green chili w/ cheese, I find tamales are a personal preference, but one thing I know for sure, each bite of DeeAnn’s grandmother’s recipe is bursting with the right amount of spice, meat, cheese, masa and of course the olive! Take all that and the consistency makes this one of the best tamales I ever had!
The pictures that I posted in this blog are from a few weeks ago. I was honored to have her cook an authentic tamale dinner for my family that was visiting from NY. My parents being Italian have never had tamales (really? That is what I thought too!)
O-BOY, they where amazed by her fabulous meal. So much so, that my Dad had some for breakfast the next day!
If you are like me, and never made a tamale in your life! I would encourage you to give my friend DeeAnn and her catering company, Taste the Traditions a call at (559) 472-6378. (check them out on Facebook. You can order chicken, beef or green chili w/cheese tamales by the dozen, for $20.00 now through New Year’s Eve! If you have a special catering request, let her know. I’m sure she can help you with a small gathering or large events. I hope you each have a wonderful Christmas and stay blessed!
