When it comes to Valentine’s Day, I think it’s what you make it out to be. So if you whether you’re single or in a relationship, if you want to completely ignore this holiday’s existence, more power to you! But since I’m your resident shopping guru of sorts, I figured I couldn’t really ignore it.
So here’s how I choose to look at it: Valentine’s Day is a day to show your love to people in your life who matter. Whoever that may be! For me, gifts are my main language of love. So here are a few of my ideas for Valentine’s Day presents.
For Your Girlfriend
Here’s the thing: I think you can buy nice jewelry without having to break the bank. My personal favorite is Swarovski jewelry. (From the actual Austrian designer, not just jewelry made with Swarovski crystals. This is an important distinction!) What I love about Swarovski is all of their unique twists on everything from necklaces and charm bracelets to ink pens and USB drives. I’m personally a fan of their brightly-colored necklaces, but their carefully-cut clear crystals sparkle like diamonds at a fraction of the cost.
There’s only a couple of places in town where you can get Swarovski. If you want to shop local, there’s Viva La Vault at Fig Garden Village. But I’m going to have to rebel a little in this case and give a shoutout to my girls at the official Swarovski store at Fashion Fair Mall. Yes, I go there so often that I’ve basically made friends with the staff. And there are no better people to help you find the perfect gift! So head over there and tell them Joanne sent you!
If you’re looking for a little designer gift that won’t cost a whole paycheck, Macy’s has a great line of Coach gifts for Valentine’s Day right now, including wristlets and wallets starting at just $55. They’re a good place to shop for all designer goods, because they always have good sales, coupons and clearance deals. Another good idea is designer resale store Tsu Tsu Boutique in Old Town Clovis. I know, I know, giving used stuff is poor form. But they actually have a lot of items that are new with tags! And they’re offering 25% off your entire purchase from now until Valentine’s Day!
For Your Friends Who Are Girls
For the record ladies, I think you can give gifts to gal pals who might also receive gifts from their significant others. But yes, your single friends could probably use some extra love on this day. It doesn’t have to be much. Just something to let them know you’re thinking of them. Grab your friend’s favorite candle. Head over to local boutiques Julia Vogue and Ooh La La and buy a cute necklace or a pretty scarf.
Another favorite store of mine, Francesca’s, is a great place to get things for your female friends. They have great accessories and heartwarming friendship photos frames, as well as quirky items like bath bombs shaped like cupcakes and a book called “100 Reasons to Panic About Being Single” (totally tongue-in-cheek, of course)!
For The Baseball Fans
Oh, and finally, here comes the baseball-themed gift you were all waiting for from me: The Grizzlies are once again running a special where Parker will deliver a whole package of goodies to your person of choice. You can find all the details here. I will TOTALLY not complain if one of you decides to send Parker to me. You can find me at ValleyPBS. Haha.
In all seriousness, though, it all comes down to this: Don’t forget to tell the people in your life that you love and appreciate them, no matter what day it is!
