Yesterday’s Tacos for Houston event brought out 1,100 people and raised $10,477 in donations that will be used to fund the American Red Cross’s efforts to aid those affected by Hurricane Harvey.
The event was announced last week by the organizers of the Taco Truck Throwdown. Food vendors including Taqueria Jaliscience, La Imperial Taqueria, Taco Mary’s, El Premio Mayor, Los Toritos, and Pop’s Emporium donated $1 from each taco sold—which totaled $2,350.
Tioga-Sequoia Brewing Co. hosted the event and contributed $2,500 from beer sales. The Fresno Grizzlies matched both that donation and the one from the food vendors.
Additionally, artist Henry Contreras sold “Houston: We are Here For You” t-shirts, the proceeds of which went to charity. The rest of the money came from direct donations to the Red Cross, which was on site.
Local musicians and artists 40 Watt Hype, Patrick Contreras, DJ Green Giant and sound/lighting guru Richard Juarez were there to donate their talents and time, as well.
It’s a great showing by the people of Fresno, and something to be proud of. Well done to everyone who attended and everyone who worked hard to put on this event in such a short amount of time.
