IT’S HERE, IT’S HERE, IT’S HERE!!!!! Sorry for shouting, but I’m ridiculously excited about the Fresno Grizzlies opening night on Friday. I know I’m always excited for Grizzlies baseball, but this is a really special year, since the Grizzlies are the reigning Triple-A National Champions! I mean, last year for opening day, they had Parker fly in on a helicopter and then drive an ATV streaming pyrotechnics, so I can only imagine what they have in store to welcome the champs back into town!
I do have a few hints of what’s in store for the season, which we’ll preview here for you today. And be sure to read all the way to the end, because we may or may not have a big prize to give away to one lucky FresYes fan!
First of all, I highly encourage you to not only get your tickets for opening night now (because they are expected to sell out) but to get to the game early on Friday, because some celebratory fun is sure to happen ahead of first pitch at 7:05 p.m. Plus, the first 10,000 fans will be given a commemorative Triple-A Championship banner.
If you want to be sure you get the banner, as well as all of the Championship Weekend giveaways, the Grizzlies are offering a great deal. For $39, you can get a ticket to all three games this weekend, plus you are guaranteed one of each giveaway item, so you don’t have to arrive early or stand in line!
But the Grizzlies have given me another reason to arrive early with something they just announced yesterday: their very own food truck! I know how those food truck lines go! I want to snag those spam fries before anyone else! Yes, I just said spam fries, as in spam cut and fried into fries. The truck, named Wild Things in an ode to the original Grizzlies mascot, specializes in some crazy food combos, including the aforementioned spam dish, PopRocks & cola pulled pork sliders, cheesesteak tacos and fries sprinkled with Hot Cheeto dust or caramel & sea salt!
After I’ve got a belly full of spam fries, I’ll probably head over to the Grizzlies team store, which is undergoing some big renovations this week in preparation for a big influx of new gear. The Grizzlies have always brought their A game when it comes to merchandise, designing it in-house and giving it a very pro-Fresno emphasis, but I know as the reigning champs, they’ll have upped the ante. If you stay tuned to the FresYes Facebook page, we’ll have some great previews of shirts, hats and other gear for you soon, but in the meantime, the Grizzlies have already revealed a couple of new products, including a Crown the Bear cap and a new (lime) green version of the popular taco hat.
Speaking of tacos, due to the overwhelming popularity of last year’s promotion, the team will be playing as the Fresno Tacos every Tuesday this season, featuring featuring Tacos uniforms on the field, a new taco mascot, $2 tacos and churros at the concession stands and even more new Fresno Tacos merchandise in the team store!
Other great promos this season include a Grizzlies Replica Championship Ring Giveaway on April 30; Halfway 2 Halloween on May 12 (with a haunted house & costume contest) and May 13 (with a family-friendly haunted house); “The Force For The Cure” Star Wars Weekend from June 10-12 (featuring Star Wars characters, a post-game laser light show on the 10th, a game-worn Star Wars jersey auction benefiting Susan G. Komen Central Valley and a ticket-package exclusive pink light saber giveaway); AND of course the annual Taco Truck Throwdown on August 18, back and better than ever!
All of this, and I haven’t even mentioned the greatest reason to go to a game, which is, of course, the baseball, played at a level that is unmatched in the minor leagues. Several of the players from the championship team will be back to play in Fresno, so you know it’s going to be a great season! Grab your tickets online now or at the Chukchansi Park box office.
