This past summer I wrote about the free comedy show that happens every month at the downtown Teazer World Market. It’s a great venue in that you get to buy some delicious tea, and enjoy a night full of laughs-which are two of my favorite things. Seriously, it’s like heaven. The only thing that would make it any more of an amazing night would be to give me a cupcake or baked good to go along with my tea. Then I’d really be happy.
I digress. 😉
Okay, back on track…I’m happy to tell you that this Friday (November 6th) there will be a Golden Girls of Comedy Tour making a stop at Teazer’s. This is an all-female line up featuring four women who are from the Bay Area. These headliners are Rebecca Arthur, Sandra Risser, Loren Kraut, and Morgan. Our local comedians are excited to host them, and just like me, are looking forward to their hilarious stand-up.
Speaking of local comedians, today I met the person who will be opening for the Golden Girls of Comedy-Christy Farley. I had the pleasure of doing my very first in person interview, and I couldn’t have started off with anyone more fun than her! Christy was super kind in agreeing to share with me about how she got started in comedy, what she uses for inspiration, and how we have a great local group of comedians who support one another. Most importantly, she also shared with me how she’s not a monkey, and she doesn’t perform on cue. (You have to make it to the end to hear about this one.)
Christy said that she likes to shed light on the absurdity of life. She also said, “Comedy is about bringing people together,” and I couldn’t agree more. If I’ve learned anything from speaking with Christy it’s that stand-up is a true art form, a craft, a talent, a skill. Comedy is more than just someone getting on stage and telling jokes, it’s about making personal connections with the audience. It’s sharing a part of oneself with others. It’s about making people laugh.
I really hope some of you can make it to see Christy and the Golden Girls of Comedy this Friday night. Remember, it’s always FREE and family friendly.
