Alvaro Romero, the creative mind behind the vintage catch-all Misc. Trading Co. in downtown, is someone Fresno is fortunate to count among its local business owners. When asked to be interviewed, he was reluctant to go in front of the camera and talk about himself. But, he did it anyway, sharing what he loves about vintage, his quick turn from working for someone else to being his own boss and why he settled in downtown.
Like the clothes, jewelry, furniture and other, well, miscellany, in the shop, the customers who shop at Misc. have stories of they’re own. My own story with Misc. began when I returned home to Fresno two years ago, looking to find a vintage shop that compared to the ones I came to depend on while living in Los Angeles. I wasn’t optimistic until a coworker mentioned Misc. and the rest is history. I was hooked.
One of the special things about Alvaro’s shop is that it serves as a watering hole for like-minded vintage lovers. It’s the kind of place where you can stand out front and shoot the breeze…about everything from crop tops and mid-century furniture, art, music and how to make downtown better. Think of it as a Cheers for fashion-focused urbanites in the Valley.
Thanks, Alvaro! Fresno is lucky to have you.
