Happy Friday! Well, we did it. We made it through Thanksgiving. I hope everyone had yummy food and didn’t have to loosen their belt too much. Or maybe you just wore stretchy pants to dinner, which would have been a smart choice. 😉
Well, being the Friday after Thanksgiving, we all know what today is. Black Friday! I’m curious as to how many of you have been up since before the sun, scoring good deals. Perhaps even some of you started last night! Personally, I’m not a Black Friday shopper. Having said that, I will admit that last year I went shopping on Thanksgiving night. I waited in line, 2 lines in fact. However, I was in and out within an hour or so, and I had purchased an Xbox for under $100!! That was a great deal, and worth my time. Also, about 5 years ago I went to Petsmart and got an amazing deal on cat litter. Not exactly what most people would buy, but hey, my cats needed litter and I saved money. Winning! 😉
So, other than those 2 instances, you will not find me out shopping with the crowds. I like to stay home, catch up on TV shows, hang out with the kiddos, and enjoy leftovers. That’s my idea of a nice Friday.
Now, when it comes to Saturday…I like to get my shopping on!
The Saturday after Black Friday has come to be known as Small Business Saturday.
This is when we are encouraged to shop our local small businesses. I know that I can’t speak for all of us here at FresYes, but I’m pretty sure that this is one topic we all agree on-supporting our local small businesses is very important. There are so many mom and pop businesses around town, and we are the ones who keep them going. These local shop owners take the time out of their day to help us, their customer service is outstanding, and they love what they do. I always feel welcomed when I enter a local business-always. I know I’m not the only one who feels this way. This means, we should show our support by shopping at our favorite local small businesses this Saturday.
I’d like to share with you 4 of my favorite places to shop.
Petunia’s Place Children’s Bookstore
6027 N Palm, 93704 (NW corner of Palm and Bullard)
Petunia’s will be closed Friday, but will be open from 10am-4pm on Saturday. If you go between 11-2, you will have the opportunity to meet 3 local authors: Steven Provost, Linda Lee Kane, and Jennifer Chow. They will be signing books and answering any questions you may have. This is one of my favorite features about Petunia’s. As a book lover, it’s such a treat to be able to meet authors. As an educator and mom, I love this because it can be empowering for children to meet authors. It gives us an opportunity to get our kids excited about the love of writing.
Aside from the local authors, there will be other local talents visiting Petunia’s. Seamstress Virginia Derian, balloon artist Mr. Mister Winston, and Alene from Quietcreek Alpacas will be on hand at various times between 11-2.
Petunia’s is one of my most favorite places in Fresno. Even if you don’t go on Saturday, check it out sometime this holiday season. You’ll love it there, I promise.
2225 W Shaw Suite 101, 93711 (Close to Shaw and West)
10am-5pm
Craftopia has many crafting goodies for you to look through. There is a wide variety of yarn, some fabric, lots of Rainbow Looms and bands (which will all be 50% off on Saturday), and many other crafting supplies.

I love Craftopia because the owner, Kirsten, is one of my most favorite people on earth. She is so very, very kind. She has helped my daughter in many ways, encouraged her in her crafting endeavors, helped to show support for my son’s school, and is always willing to answer any questions. She is just amazing. If you go in on Saturday, you’ll get a $10 gift card for any purchase over $50. Uh, yes please!
2015 Tuolumne St, 93721 (Downtown)
10am-5pm
What I love most about Raizana is all that they do for downtown. They have a vintage pop-up once a month, supporting local sellers and artists. Raizana believes in growth and love of downtown. Not to mention, their tea is yummy and promotes health and wellness.
453 Pollasky Ave #107, 93612 (Old Town Clovis)
10am-5pm
I’ve only been inside of Revival 23 once, but I really enjoyed it! What I remember most was that the material on the shirt I was looking at was so soft, and the customer service was amazing! The women were so nice and kind to my friend and I. They made sure we were taken care of, but not in a pestering kind of way. They were polite and had a lovely spirit about them.
If you shop at Revival 23 on Saturday they will be serving a few light breakfast treats, as well as holding drawings, and having discounts. The best part? Getting to meet the staff who love what they do!
These are not the only local businesses, but these are some that I want to support. Why? Because I like the people who work there, and what they stand for. It’s the people who help to make Fresno the city I love.
