If you’re familiar with the local, live music scene, chances are you’ve enjoyed the vocals and guitar of Roger Perry. A mainstay in the Fresno area, guitarist since childhood, and avid Elvis Presley, Leonard Cohen and classic country music fan, Perry plays sets that encompass artists from Bobby Darin to Cher, Merle Haggard, Tom Jones and beyond. His vocals switch seamlessly from country to blues, to rock and back while his impeccable guitar playing leads The Roger Perry Band. Perry has dedicated his career to his music (as well as giving the gift of music to others teaching guitar lessons in Fresno) and has earned a large local following that enjoys following him and his band from gig to gig across the San Joaquin Valley.
Perry is also known for his frequent musical guest appearances on Central Valley Buzz and most recently, his own webcast, streaming at 6pm on Central Valley Talk, “The Music Files with Roger Perry.” Perry is a musician who appreciates classic music, pure talent and the value of good sound quality and great band placement and location at events to ensure those who care about the music as much as he does, will be able to enjoy it.
This past weekend, Perry was honored by the Bakersfield Country Music Awards with the 2015 Lifetime Achievement Award at a ceremony held on November 8th at the Nile. Perry was in great company that evening, as he had the opportunity to perform among fellow country artists including Nashville singer-songwriter, Gina Jones, who was most recently opening for Blake Shelton. She performed her current single, “You’re Not the Only Heart” as well as another original song she wrote for her niece, “I’m Lost” for the event. Other performers and honorees included Terry Keplinger’s Band, The Newly Family, Jessica Rose, Richie Blue, Susan Ray, Zach Arnold, Rick Stevens, Billy C. Stevens, Ollie Stevens, Frank Graham and Jennifer Keel.
To enjoy the sounds of The Roger Perry Band at an upcoming concert, visit his Facebook page for a show schedule. You can also listen to my personal favorite song he plays, “River in the Rain” for Central Valley Buzz audiences.
Congratulations Roger on your achievement! Don’t go leaving us for Bakersfield though now, we’re counting on singing along with your tunes here in Fresno for many years to come.
