If you’ve ever wished you could know exactly what us moms want for Christmas, without actually asking directly – I’ve got you covered. (Hint: husbands – if you’re feeling at a loss this year as far as direction, this list could be a big help!)
I conducted an informal survey with local moms from a variety of backgrounds and lifestyles, and here’s what they say they really want this Christmas (with links provided for your convenience):
Moms Want Comfy Feet
Over 1/2 of all responses I received indicated moms really want something that will keep their feet comfortable this winter. 25% of the women listed UGG boots as a top item on their wishlist this year. (In several cases, they were replacements for beloved, but now overly worn pairs). And just slightly fewer women (22%) listed cozy slippers as a desired gift. Another response stated, “Vans. I’m obsessed with Vans and would love a new pair. Or 5.” (Any pair of Skechers with the recycled yoga-mat “Goga” insole is always a welcomed gift in my house, too – so I totally get it!)
Experiences Take Priority Over Things for Some
Several respondents included experiences as a most hoped for gift, and above all tangible items.
“My favorite gift: TICKETS!!! Tickets from a local travel agent — any one will do — to go anywhere and do any cool adventure anywhere in California or the world,” says local resident and Fresno Bee columnist, Gail Marshall.
“Local places for tickets are wide open — I adore live theater; season tickets to Roger Rockas/Second Space, StageWorks, Fresno State theater season, Fresno City College season, Broadway in Fresno, community theaters and Roosevelt School of the Arts, where our neighbor boy goes. I love tickets to concerts in almost all genres of music, tickets to lectures like Town Hall, One-Day University, home shows, all famous speakers. Movie tickets are great, too!”
And, no pressure, but Gail’s family: if you are reading… she did add, “In case you did not pick up my subtle hint for Christmas, [my biggest wishlist item] would be Hamilton Tickets!” #justsayin
“I prefer experiences and memories over things,” stated Mindy Sullivan, a mom of two, and talented local visual artist (she sings, performs with a cultural dance group, and creates murals!)
“I would really love to have a date night package as a gift. You know, a couple gift cards for some of my favorite places to go with my husband along with a night of free babysitting included, of course. A gift card for Royal Taj Indian cuisine, a gift card for Ampersand for dessert, and maybe a show at Roger Rocka’s.”
Services that Reduce Workload are Welcome
“I am obsessed with having a clean car. However, my car is rarely clean,” says Tanya Osegueda, mother of two and founder/owner of Narativ PR. “I would love a gift certificate from Marshall’s Auto Detailing. They literally come to your house to detail your car. It’s the ultimate splurge and something I would never purchase for myself.”
“A Christmas tree. Already decorated.” was another response we received that I couldn’t help but nod my head to as I read it!
I know of no mom ever in the history of ever, who would refuse a deep cleaning service for their home, either.
Little Luxuries
A wide range of small, but beloved gift ideas also poured in, including:
- “Anything from Lush. I love taking baths after a long day.” (Lush is known for their giant, deliciously-scented bath bombs)
- “A cool coffee mug I can use every day, and Dutch Bros gift certificates to fill it!”
- “Really comfy workout pants”
- Natural gifts: oil diffusers, essential oils and natural skin care items
And of course, things that sparkle and shine almost never disappoint. “Although I tell my husband I don’t need anything, I still want things,” shared Tanya Osegueda. “A friend recently shared these beautiful stackable rings from Lewis Diamond Company and I can’t get them out of my head. I love sparkles and I love jewelry. I hope Santa is listening!”

Local Love
A number of locally-owned, not previously mentioned companies’ wares and gift certificates were also requested when I inquired.
Basilwood Farms, that makes skin care and other items from goats’ milk; The Foundry Collective, Kisch and Ooh La La boutiques; Gillespie Woodworks, a custom furniture and décor company; The Rugged Heart, a locally-owned Etsy store offering custom wood signs; and Meg’s Cookie Madness, a custom-cookie and dessert company were all brought up as places respondents would love a gift certificate to.

So, there you have it! A list of options as wide as can be, from which you’re sure to find at least a handful of ideas to make Christmas dreams come true, for a special mom in your life. I hope you found this list helpful. Happy shopping!
