Burgers are delicious.
This is not an alternative fact. This is just fact.
We Fresnans like our burgers. We like them with ketchup and mustard, we like them with cheese, and we even like them fancy. Like, with figs and mushrooms and pineapple and stuff.
We just like burgers.
That’s why I decided to take an informal poll among the FresYes team to find out who makes the best burger in the Fresno/Clovis area. There was a lot of discussion about where to get a good burger—lots of good choices were mentioned—but here are the top five we came up with. Don’t like our list? Feel free to fight us in the comments.
1. House of JuJu
House of JuJu is located in Old Town Clovis. If you look at the menu, you see the burgers are all named after strong women: Athena, Calamity Jane, Dragon Lady, Betsy Ross, and even owner Julie Glenn, or JuJu, herself.
The names are fun, but when it comes to burgers, it’s all about the taste. When I asked the team which burger is the best-tasting burger at House of JuJu, the answer that came back was “any of them.” Boom.
2. Eureka Burger
Whenever anyone talks about Eureka, there’s one burger that always comes up in conversation: the Fresno Fig Burger. Featuring
3. Irene’s Café
Any Fresno native knows Irene’s Café is where to go for burgers in the Tower District. Hasn’t it won the Fresno Bee’s People’s Choice Award about a hundred times? Awards or no, Irene’s has a selection of burgers that includes the Mushroom Burger, Bacon Bleu Cheese Burger, and the Teriyaki Pineapple Burger—all worth trying.
4. Triangle Drive-in
Of course, Triangle Drive-in has that old-fashioned charm and nostalgia thing going for it, but it’s the food that keeps people coming back, and has allowed the restaurant to open a second location. The burgers are simple and delicious, and they’re served alongside crinkle fries and sodas with the good ice. You know what I mean.
5. Max’s Bistro
Here’s a choice that may come as a surprise, as Max’s is not known for being a burger place. In fact, there’s just one burger on the menu—the Max’s burger. At $15, it’s definitely the most expensive burger on our list, but once you taste the grilled angus, sharp cheddar, and applewood smoked bacon on a house-baked bun, you won’t be worrying about your wallet.
And that’s that. The five best places to get a burger in Fresno. Don’t see your favorite on this list? Add it to the comments below.

Irene’s is great, and of course Triangle is legendary…but there are definitely others worth checking out. Dari Delite is a super old-school choice and still my go-to for a real burger experience. Going for a little more upscale? The Elbow Room still has a great burger. And…technically it’s Clovis, but Smokey’s Grill inside the old Peacock Market is a burger destination you MUST check out. Get the Miss Mary.

Well, you know, taste is subjective. The great thing about a list like this is, it gets people talking, and comments like yours and the ones below help others find places they maybe didn’t know about, or forgot about.

I never cared for Colorado grill. But I think they should shout out the new spot called Fame it Burger.
