The folks behind a new local business are working to revolutionize your ice cream eating experience.
Roll Me Some Artisanal Ice Cream produces ice cream in a completely different way than most of us are accustomed to.
“The concept of Roll Me Some is to elevate the ice cream experience and the flavor profiles,” says owner Mario Vejar. “The idea of being able to create new flavors and combos in micro batches is great.”
Mario, his wife Vanessa, and their friends Josh and Heather Durham launched their business in their garages.
“The neighborhood kids love us,” Vejar says. “They were our unofficial taste-testers for a while.”
The “Rolled Ice Cream Experience” allows you to see your ice cream being made in its raw form. Fresh, locally sourced ingredients are chopped in and rolled out to create each individual dessert.
The ice cream is made using two metal slabs that are set at minus 25 degrees Fahrenheit.
“We use a 100% organic, non-GMO cream,” Vejar says. “The lack of artificial colors, emulsifiers, and stabilizers creates a very unique, roll-off-the-tongue creamy texture.”
The rapid freezing method also helps reduce the amount of ice crystals that form, which allows the ice cream to be extra creamy and have a lower fat content.
“Our flavors are influenced by the season,” Vejar says. “We work directly with our farmers to bring the best fruits available.”
In addition to fruit flavors, classics like cookies and cream are on the menu. The “Cookie Monster” is a crème-based mixed with Oreo cookies and Ghirardelli Chocolate Syrup and topped with additional cookies.
Roll Me Some Artisanal Ice Cream can currently be purchased at pop-up events happening around the Fresno/Clovis area. On June 10, they’ll be at Lanna Coffee Co., located at 617 Broadway St. in downtown Fresno. That event runs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Their first store front will be opening at the Iron Bird Lofts on Fulton and Divisadero in downtown Fresno in late June. They hope to also open a Clovis location.
“Currently, there is nothing like our ‘Rolled Ice Cream Experience,’ says Vejar. “We are the first to bring this to the Central Valley.”
