Do you know a boy or girl between 4th and 8th grade who lives, breathes, and sleeps football and sports? Perhaps an aspiring future athlete?
KYJO (Keeping Youth Journeying Onward) is hosting its 5th annual Big B.A.N.G. (Building a New Generation) free football camp weekend at Fresno State on Saturday, July 8.
Past & Present Football Players Pitch In
This event brings in some of the biggest names in local football talent, such as Charles Washington, Derron Smith, Kenny Wiggins, and Isaiah Burse, to give kids from Fresno and nearby surrounding areas the opportunity to practice their skills on a college field while receiving coaching, mentorship and inspiration from those they look up to.
Last year alone, the event attracted the participation of over 30 current and former professional athletes, 750 event participants, and the support of 15 local businesses who committed to providing this inspirational opportunity for kids.
Participants in the BIG B.A.N.G. weekend do more than just practice their athletic skills, they also benefit from mentorship and leadership that encourages staying on the right path in life and working hard towards dreams versus being distracted by the things that can prevent youth from reaching their goals.
The host organization, KYJO, offers amazing experiences to underserved youth beyond this event, as well. Each year, KYJO provides foster youth with the opportunity to experience things such as touring Alcatraz, kayaking, attending the Summer Olympics, camping, boating, jet skiing, deep-sea fishing, visiting the snow, and attending Harlem Globetrotters games.
Registration & Volunteer Information
If you have a child you’d like to register for this year’s Big B.A.N.G. event, you can find the registration form online here. You’ll also need to download and complete the waiver, which can be found here.
In order for this event to be the success it is, KYJO is seeking volunteers as well, and need the help of 100 local individuals who are committed to putting youth first (and let’s be honest, might like the chance to meet a pro player, too! Perks to volunteering, after all.). If this is you, KYJO asks that you please let them know by contacting:
Gina E. Cantu
Administrative Assistant
(559) 243-7002
gcantu@kyjo.org
Or completing their online volunteer registration form.
Special Needs Kids Welcome!
In addition, KYJO has partnered with the Diamond Learning Center of Fresno and Magic Fresno to ensure all youth have an opportunity to participate in this fantastic event! Up to 100 students with special needs will have the chance to see their limitations fade away as they learn how truly extraordinary they are during the football clinic or cheerleading clinic designed to meet their needs. To register, please complete this registration form. Magic Fresno can be contacted for more information at magicfresno@gmail.com.
Kudos to KYJO, The Diamond Learning Center, Fresno Magic, and all Big B.A.N.G. sponsors and volunteers for making such an amazing opportunity a reality for local youth of all abilities!
