The Rare Steer Steakhouse
As a transplant from NY, as snotty as this may sound, I would only eat at the finest Steakhouses that also cost you your whole wallet! In truth, I was only exposed to restaurants in my area growing up in the North East.
A few years back after moving to Fresno, I met my boyfriend and our courtship began. We would compare east coast living to west coast living, central valley living to big city living. In the end, one thing was clear, we both enjoy great food!
One day back in 2013 my then boyfriend (now husband) said, “Have I got a STEAK for you!” He started to tell me about Jackie the owner of this restaurant in Centerville, CA named, “The Rare Steer Steakhouse!” My mouth started to salivate as the descriptions of the menu started to ramble off his tongue: blackened salmon steaks, 23 oz. porterhouse steaks, rib-eye Steaks, ribs, thick-cut pork chops with brown sugar and apple glaze, chicken, burgers, etc. He said, “all your meals come with fresh homemade sourdough bread on the table, house salad and two sides!”
As I prepared for my first adventure to this so called restaurant, The Rare Steer Steakhouse I asked my boyfriend, “what is the dress code?” He replied with, “casual dining!” You mean I could wear jeans and flip-flops? He said, “YES!” O-BOY, it was heaven just hearing this!
When we arrived we pulled up to this Spanish style white building right off highway 180. I felt like this city girl just walked into a mom’s kitchen, simple décor, very casual atmosphere, and a beyond friendly wait staff. I ordered the famous 23oz. porterhouse cooked on an open fire pit, and it was to die for (I made up my own name for it, “The COWBOY Steak”) hence the name of my blog post!
You might ask, what makes The Rare Steer Steakhouse so amazing? It’s not just the simple food menu, or Jackie the owner, it’s the people, and the care they give their customers. With that said for the past few years we have brought all of our out-of-town guests here, as well as introduced our local friends and family to The Rear Steer Steakhouse. To this day this restaurant has become our favorite place, as we always do our best to support local businesses in the Central Valley. This one is a true hidden gem, I suggest you definitely try it, though they are only open on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. It’s a small place with limited seating, so if you have a large group call ahead for a reservation. If you have to wait for a table I promise, it is WORTH IT!
