Fresno just got a little spicier with the opening of Houston TX Hot Chicken, a brand-new to the area hot chicken restaurant in North Fresno’s Park Crossing Shopping Center on Friant just east of 41. This fast-casual chain restaurant is the first location to the Fresno-area, and it’s drawing in crowds with its unique twists and additions to the standard hot-chicken menu.
Of course, Houston TX Hot Chicken’s specialty is its namesake dish: hot chicken, fried to crispy perfection and coated in a spicy (or, if you prefer, not spicy) batter. Diners can choose from seven different levels of heat, ranging from “no spice” and honey butter at the mild end to the incredibly hot “Houston we have a problem!”
And, if you’re looking for a cool and sweet side to balance out the heat, they also offer soft serve vanilla ice cream, sundaes, and Belgian waffles, complete with little pearls of sugar throughout to accompany your chicken dinner.
The menu at Houston TX Hot Chicken also includes tasty seasoned crinkle fries, two salad options, cheese fries, and a special house sauce that’s tangy, sweet, tomato-y and creamy. For those who want something refreshing to wash it all down, they have multiple varieties of frozen and chilled lemonades, including Cucumber Watermelon, Strawberry Hibiscus, and Blueberry Lavender (plus classic lemonade, too).
One thing that really sets Houston TX Hot Chicken apart is their flexibility when it comes to spice levels. You can choose a variety of levels for your chicken pieces within one meal, which means you can try out different levels of heat without committing to a whole plate of super spicy chicken. From personal experience, the medium level is both tasty and quite spicy.
The interior of the restaurant is spacious with a neon-modern southwest theme, and there is room to dine inside or on their patio located on the east side of the building. And if you’re planning a party or event, Houston TX Hot Chicken offers catering trays and delivery services through Uber Eats (see below). Online ordering ahead is also available, so you can place your order and skip the wait. (I would highly recommend this option, especially during lunch and weekend dinner rushes, as each meal is made to order and there can be a bit of a wait.)
