The Fresno County Public Library is packing this summer full of fun, educational entertainment sure to delight kids of all ages and interests. So, if you’re a parent or caregiver, you’re definitely going to want to bookmark this post, as well as the library’s events calendar.
To help get you started, I’m sharing my top ten picks for fun library events this summer. I recommend clicking each event you are interested in within the calendar, as some require online reservations or have limited space.
1. Enjoy story time with Clifford the Big Red Dog and get a free book!
Clifford Reads Everywhere is a summer event that will take place at different Fresno County libraries weekly throughout the summer. This event is put on by the library and ValleyPBS. To attend, check out the schedule online, and reserve your free spots in advance (to ensure books and space for all).
2. Join a Drum Circle!
Learn about rhythm and music in a drum circle led by the pros. Drum circle classes are happening throughout the summer at various library branches. Refer to the schedule for specific date and times.
3. Enjoy a Magic Show!
Magician Tim Mannix will perform a family-friendly magic show combining comedy and mind-boggling magic at several library locations this summer.
4. Take in a Bubble Show!
Wild Child Adventures will visit multiple libraries this summer to share the science behind what makes the coolest bubbles with their young audiences. Interactive bubble fun, tricks, and manipulations are sure to entertain.
5. Learn to make “sushi”!
Young Chef’s Academy will be coming to the library this summer to teach kids how to make both a vegetable- and a dessert-style “sushi” snack to enjoy.
6. Get up close and personal with reptiles!
E & M’s Reptile Family will join young friends at various library branches this summer to teach about the lives and needs of their lizards, snakes, and amphibians. Interact with the animals and get a close-up look at exotic animals you won’t find at your typical pet store.
7. Unwind and relax with a favorite Disney movie!
Sometimes, you just need to go enjoy some good, free AC and take in a great flick. The library has you covered in this regard with free Disney movies on multiple afternoons throughout the summer! (A great way to wind back down after a day of swimming at a local pool, too.)
8. Get a free lunch!
FREE lunch will be served between 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. Monday through Friday throughout the summer for children ages 1-18. Click the schedule link above for a list of participating libraries.
9. Read with a Dog
Tail Waggin’ Tutors will be bringing their registered therapy dogs to library branches throughout the summer for children who love interacting with animals, even if they can’t have a dog of their own at this time.
10. Make and Take Crafts
There are multiple opportunities each week for kids to make and take awesome craft projects at various library locations all summer long, including the popular washi tape picture frame project.
