October in the central valley is a wonderful month, full of beautiful scenery, cozy vibes, cooler temps, and fun activities. With all that it has to offer, it’s no wonder that it’s one of our favorite months of the year.
We recently asked our readers what their favorite things to do in October are, and here’s what they had to say:
Enjoy the fall foliage. October is the perfect time to get outside and admire the changing leaves. There are many beautiful places to do this, including parks, forests, and scenic drives. Natali wrote, “A perfect fall day hike for the whole family“.
Go pumpkin picking. This is a classic fall activity that’s fun for all ages. Many farms offer pumpkin picking, as well as other activities like corn mazes, hayrides, and animal petting zoos. Recently we interviewed Oh My Gourd Pumpkin Patch: A Family-Operated Delight and last year we created a Pumpkin Patch Map – should we do that again this year?
Carve pumpkins. Once you’ve picked out your perfect pumpkin, it’s time to get creative! Carving pumpkins is a great way to show off your artistic skills and have some fun with friends and family. Last year we held a contest – you submitted pictures or video of your carved pumpkins and we picked a random winner for a gift certificate. We should do that again, right?
Bake fall treats. October is the perfect time to bake up some delicious fall treats, such as pumpkin pie, apple crisp, and cinnamon rolls. These treats are perfect for sharing with loved ones or enjoying on your own. With the Big Fresno Fair going on right now – there’s those rolled tacos so many of us love. Have you had one of those yet?
Attend a Halloween event. Halloween is one of the most popular holidays in October, and there are many events happening all month long. From haunted houses and costume parties to trick-or-treating, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. There’s the Haunted Trail, plenty of Trunk or Treats (we even made our own map last year for that) and then there’s Raisin Hell Ranch which is a whole thing unto itself. We’ve been giving away tickets to that in our weekly quiz. Find it in The Insider on Saturday Morning.
In addition to these popular activities, our readers also mentioned a variety of other things they enjoy doing in October, such as:
Hiking and camping. The cooler weather in October makes it ideal for hiking and camping. There are many beautiful trails and campgrounds to choose from, so you’re sure to find the perfect place to enjoy the outdoors. We made a map of the best places to go for a hike at https://www.fresyes.com/fresno/national-hiking-day/.
Going to a football game. Bulldog football is in full swing in October, and there’s nothing quite like rooting for the favorite team at a live game. As you might have guessed, we’ve been giving away tickets to the home games in our weekly quiz too! To win you need to be subscribed, take the easy quiz on Saturday Morning – and we pick one lucky winner!
Attending a fall festival. There are many fall festivals happening all over the country in October. These festivals typically feature live music, food vendors, and arts and crafts booths. Of course, you know all about these festivals because we include them every Friday on The FresYes Hot & Happening, right?
Spending time with loved ones. October is a great time to cozy up with loved ones and enjoy the fall weather. Whether you’re watching a movie, playing games, or just chatting, spending time with loved ones is one of the best ways to enjoy October.
Did we miss one of your favorites? Just leave us a comment, we would love to know! No matter what your interests are, there’s sure to be something you’ll love to do in October. So go out and enjoy this wonderful month!
