Monday night, Craig Scharton, one of Downtown Fresno’s greatest advocates and owner of Peeve’s Public House, shared that Peeve’s is in critical condition.
If you’re looking to be a part of the solution, Craig has given us one: drink a beer.
Peeve’s is asking for 2,500 extra visits to their gastropub over the next few months to keep the doors open. If you’ve never been or haven’t in a while, now is the time! If you’re afraid of the Fulton Mall or just want to stay home over the next few months, no judgement! You can still impact your local community from the comfort on your own internet connection. At SavePeeves.com, you can give $5 for the beer you want to keep on draft for a soccer fan, $20 for the date nights shared by many downtowners, or heck, give them $7,000 to make up for the increase in insurance fees they have to pay.
The point is to do SOMETHING. It’s easy. You’ll make people happy. If you go there yourself, you’ll eat delicious food, drink something nice, and be happy.
SavePeeves.com was started yesterday by one of Craig’s former urban entrepreneurship students, who started his own business downtown under Craig’s guidance. It’s wonderful to see how fast the community has gathered to support this beacon of hope for downtown Fresno.
Human instinct for situations like this is often to point fingers. It’s very natural to start diagnosing why we think someone is in trouble or what they could have done better. The shoulda coulda wouldas come out, and all of a sudden we’re all expert restaurant owners. This happens in times of crisis. We all want to blame someone or something for what went wrong. That’s not helpful.
Trust me, I get like that, too. I hate seeing local establishments go under, and I always think I know exactly why. But it’s a waste of breath. Right now, we have this super cool, super easy opportunity to help our community, to take part in making a difference. It’s not curing cancer, but it’s saving a place where we can all go to be a part of each others lives: to connect, to get away, to be entertained. And of course, drink beer.
Visit Peeve’s Facebook page to view their January menu. They open today (Wed) at 11am. If you need a reminder to check them out this week, you can RSVP to Let’s go to Peeve’s, happening tomorrow (Thurs) at 5pm.
Location
1243 Fulton Mall, Fresno, California 93721
Parking Information
There is a parking garage a couple blocks north/east of Peeve’s, free after 6pm. The meter parking is also free after 6pm. Evenings and weekends, Garage 9 at 2020 Merced at Van Ness is a good spot. Also, Lot #2 (1279 Broadway) is behind Peeve’s, off Broadway Plaza north of Fresno Street. Peeve’s can validate your parking stub there. Both of these are usually clean, safe and well-lit.
