My friends, dear readers, do you relish a good burger? If so, I have an insider tip for you: Hammy’s Smash Burgers is a must-visit!
Recently, I stumbled upon an article on Yelp Central Valley featuring the top 100 places ranked on Yelp. There, I saw a photo of one of the most appetizing burgers I’ve ever laid eyes on. This led me to discover a newer but highly-rated restaurant in Fresno: Hammy’s Smash Burgers
Although a new fixture in Fresno, Hammy’s has another location in Los Angeles. This could indicate an expanding chain, but regardless of its origins, any burger enthusiast owes it to themselves to try this place.
The menu at Hammy’s includes three main burger options: a traditional burger or cheeseburger loaded with the finest toppings—crisp lettuce, thick tomato slices, perfectly grilled onions, and a special sauce; their barbecue bacon burger; and their jalapeño smash burger. You can order each burger as a single, double, or triple, all prepared ‘smashed.’ For those unacquainted with smash burgers, the seasoned beef patty is pressed and seared on a super-hot griddle, creating a delightfully crispy, lacy edge. The thin patty is caramelized, locking in an incredible depth of flavor. And believe me, they are divine.
In addition to burgers, Hammy’s serves fries, including bacon cheese fries and Hammy fries topped with a smashed beef patty, melted cheese, grilled onions, and sauce. However, even their standard fries are exceptional: crispy on the outside, perfectly medium-cut, and expertly salted. The food is made to order, ensuring it arrives piping hot and fresh. For those with a penchant for onion rings, Hammy’s offers large, crispy ones. To wash it all down, they serve milkshakes in two sizes and five flavors (chocolate, strawberry, vanilla, Oreo, and banana), along with a selection of Coke products.
Hammy’s has set up shop in the former location of Chubby’s Diner on West Shaw, near Costco and Winco. It’s a cozy spot, featuring an aisle of booths (mostly two-seaters with a couple of four-seaters at each end) and a row of stools at a counter overlooking the kitchen. The setting is casual; you place your order at the counter, and they’ll bring your food to your table or call you up for takeout. Space can be tight during peak meal times, so bear that in mind. They also partner with delivery services like DoorDash.
