Earlier this week I took a very unscientific poll. I asked people on Facebook to name the Christmas movies they HAVE to watch every Christmas.
Per your answers, here are Fresno’s top 5 Christmas movies.
1. Elf
To my surprise, this 2003 movie starring Will Ferrell as a human who thinks he’s a, you know, is Fresno’s favorite Christmas movie. Not sure how to take this news.
2. National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation
This choice is not as much a surprise as Elf, but it is kinda weird that a 1980s movie starring Chevy Chase ranks number two.
3. A Christmas Story
Coincidentally, another 1980s film ties for second with Christmas Vacation. As I said in the Facebook post, there’s a reason this cult classic gets played for 24 hours straight every year on cable.
4. White Christmas
Perhaps you think this 1954 film starring Bing Crosby introduced the classic Christmas song of the same name. It did not. (That was 1942’s Holiday Inn, which also starred Crosby.)
5. Die Hard
Some of you think you’re cute. But I can kind of see why this movies ranks. For a non-Christmas Christmas movie, I’d go with The Sound of Music or The Wizard of Oz, but that’s just me. Clearly.
Honorable mentions
Here are the movies that got multiple mentions but couldn’t crack the top five.
• Love Actually
• Home Alone
• It’s a Wonderful Life
• A Muppet Christmas Carol
Don’t see your favorite movie on this list? Either you have better taste than everyone else in Fresno or … Merry Christmas!
