I am a proud, life-long Fresno resident and I love writing about all the great things there is to share about Fresno and the nearby surrounding areas as a featured writer at FresYes.com. Writing this blog has pushed me to try new things and visit new places in an effort to learn about them so I can share the great ones with you. My own horizons have been expanded, and I’ve had made many joyful memories thanks to this blog. No – I’m not going anywhere – but I am reflecting – and realizing that many of you may still not know about some of my favorite Fresno faces and places if you’re new to reading this blog!
So, today – to celebrate these great places and in hopes of providing you with fond memories, I’m sharing my top 10 blog posts from the site that I hope you’ll read if you haven’t already.
1. 3-Must See Hiking Trails for Spring:
I didn’t even know I liked hiking until fairly recently – then I experienced the joy of nearby, beautiful trails and the ease of day hiking and picnicking with friends and family. If you’re not a naturally inclined hiker either, I really hope you’ll check out this post and maybe consider visiting at least one of the trails mentioned – I don’t think you’ll regret it!
2. Meet Carlanda Williams, The Magical Teacher:
Carlanda (now Carlanda Miller) brings a level of imagination, above-and-beyond effort, and magic to her classroom that is so exceptional, you have to see it. My interview with her has been one of my most favorite, and we have remained friends. She’s a fantastic human moving and shaking in the world of education, and she lives right here in town.
3. “Enough” clothing shop wants to ensure families in need have just that—for free:
This interview and resource write up in one I suspect few people have seen, but many people would benefit from. This free thrift store is open to anyone in need. You do not need to be associated with the church that hosts it. So if you know someone who could use clothing for an interview, for their children who’ve grown faster than the family clothing budget, of has changed sizes and finances won’t allow for a wardrobe refresh – Enough can help!
4. The Revue Celebrates One Year Anniversary with New Mural:
Those who know me, know The Revue is my favorite place to spend time and enjoy a cup of coffee. It also is a place that holds good conversation in Fresno. It’s just special – and the mural is a big part of that specialness. It’s colorful and makes me smile every time I arrive at my favorite place. Because you read this, I think you should now treat yourself to a coffee at Revue. 🙂
5. Avila La Fonda Hotel is the romantic summer getaway you’re craving:
I always get nervous talking about this place, as I fear everyone will go an book it solid and I’ll never get to go again. If you’re looking for a romantic place to take an anniversary trip, Avila La Fonda is the one to choose. Yes, I realize this is not an actual Fresno recommendation – however, one of the best things about living in Fresno is it is in easy travel distance to the coast and other beautiful places!
6. Hero Alliance Provides True Superhero Experience for Valley Kids:
You’ve probably seen cheesy character dress up “actors” on sitcoms and in movies, but I have to give this local company credit. They are the REAL deal. (I mean, not the real, real deal… but, you know what I mean, right?) They go ALL out and make birthdays and special occasions for kids truly magical and immersive. If you have a young person in your life with big love for a super hero or princess – you’re going to want to bookmark this blog post.
7. I lost my home in a fire – what I wish I’d known:
I hope this is a blog post you never need, but my interview with Brooke, who was so gracious in sharing her experience of losing her home in a fire offered practical information that I never would have thought of, having not been through the experience. If you or anyone you know ever go through this tragedy, Brooke’s guidance is very helpful.
8. Fresno’s Newest Park Lives Up to Its Name: Inspiration Park:
If you live on the NE, SE, or SW side of town, you might not be familiar with this expansive and unique park in NW Fresno. If you’ve never been, you should definitely make an effort to enjoy some time there this Spring!
9. Places to go: Fossil Discovery Center:
Prior to this field trip experience with my son, I had NO IDEA with had a fossil museum nearby! It was such a cool experience, and with so many kids who love dinosaurs, I felt it was definitely worth a reshare! Of note: prices of admission (though still reasonable at $8-12) have gone up since I wrote the original post.
10. People of FresYes: Meet Fresno-based viral tattoo artist and TikTok star, Wooddy:
This was such a fun interview, and Wooddy is such a funny, genuine, and talented guy. Even if you’re not looking to get a tattoo anytime soon, I think you’ll enjoy his great interview. Though it’s a more recent post of mine, it’s still one of my all time favorites.
