With the sweltering heat officially upon the Fresno/Clovis area, my husband and I were craving something fresh and cool for dinner. We knew just the place to try: the newly opened local restaurant, Le Banh Mi Bistro, which I recently discovered on Instagram. Located on the southwest corner of Shaw and Clovis Avenue, we decided to give it a shot tonight.

Le Banh Mi Bistro is a fast-casual spot nestled in a strip mall. Despite its non-descript exterior, the newly remodeled interior is sparkling clean and well-designed, offering a comfortable dine-in experience. The counter is run by the kindest and warmest folks, eager to answer your questions and help you pick the perfect dish to satisfy your cravings.

Unfortunately, on the evening we visited, the restaurant’s AC had gone out, and it was quite warm inside. Despite the heat, the staff’s friendliness and efforts to keep the place comfortable with multiple portable coolers were commendable. Given the 105-degree weather, we opted for takeout on this occasion but we’ll definitely return to dine-in another time.

My husband ordered the #1 Banh Mi, the “Saigon Special,” which is the restaurant’s most popular and traditional Banh Mi option. Other Banh Mis on the menu feature a variety of fusion fillings like smoky BBQ pork, teriyaki chicken, crispy pork belly, and even a tofu patty for vegetarian fans. He also ordered the shrimp spring rolls, which were giant, freshly made, and came with a generous side of peanut sauce for dipping.

I had been eyeing their orange chicken and chow mein on Instagram, and craving noodles, I decided to give it a try. Although not the most traditional choice for a Vietnamese restaurant, the pictures looked so tempting that I couldn’t resist.

Everything in my husband’s massive Banh Mi was incredibly fresh, beautifully sliced, and crisp and cool – the perfect choice for a hot day. The spring rolls were the largest he had ever seen, and the peanut sauce was delicious. I was amazed at the generous portion of chow mein and orange chicken for just $13 – enough for my dinner and likely two meals for my teenage son. Excellent value!

In addition to what we ordered, Le Banh Mi Bistro offers a specialty drink menu featuring boba and fruit teas, steamed pork buns, pork and teriyaki chicken bowls, chicken egg rolls, potstickers, fries, and beer-battered onion rings.
If you’re looking for a fresh option for lunch or dinner on a hot summer night, a Banh Mi, Thai Tea, and Spring Rolls from Le Banh Mi Bistro might be perfect for you! Definitely give them a try. Le Banh Mi is open daily from 10:30 am to 9 pm and is located at 610 Shaw Ave. in Clovis. Check out more of their menu and updates on Instagram here.
