Fresno’s New Sweet Spot
As you stroll down the streets of Downtown Fresno, a new delightful surprise awaits at 2017 Tuolumne Street. Just two doors down from the historic Warnor’s Theater and neighboring Fulton Street Coffee, the Gelateria del Centro (or Downtown Gelato Shop) beckons with its charming art-nouveau presence.
Step into a Bygone Era
Upon entering, you’re immediately transported to another era, reminiscent of when the Warnor’s Theater was built. The owners have meticulously crafted an atmosphere that mirrors an ice cream shop from the past, complete with an art nouveau poppy mural, striped wallpaper, gold leaf signage, and a stunning, vintage crystal chandelier. Outside, pink and white vintage-style umbrellas grace the patio tables, enhancing the Instagram-worthy allure of the place.
A Palette of Pure Flavors
The menu at Gelateria del Centro is a testament to both tradition and innovation. Classic staples like Caramello Chocolate Crunch, Dark Chocolate, Honey Lavender, Pistachio, Limoncello, and Stracciatella promise to delight, alongside plant-based wonders like Cashew Milk-based Himalayan Salted Caramel and Coconut Milk Vanilla Bean. Seasonal offerings round out the menu, with current flavors including White Peppermint Bark and Peach Cobbler Amaretto.
Taste that Speaks Quality
During our visit, the quality and taste of the gelato were exceptional. The White Chocolate Peppermint Bark and Peach Cobbler Amaretto were filled with fresh, natural inclusions, devoid of artificial tastes. My single scoop was bursting with generous chunks of peppermint bark.
Affordable Indulgence
The pricing is as sweet as the gelato itself, starting at $4 for a single scoop, $6 for a double, and $7.50 for a triple.
Service with a Smile
The service at Gelateria del Centro was friendly and efficient and the staff readily offered free tasting samples, making the choice of flavors an enjoyable dilemma.
A Festive Experience
The shop was adorned in festive decorations, creating a sparkling Christmas ambiance. A holiday scene with a decorated red Vespa in the front window provided the perfect backdrop for memorable photographs.
A Dream Realized
The Gelateria is the brainchild of Jordan Sanchez (owner of J Street Studios) and Tami Waters. Their vision was to bring something unique to Downtown Fresno, celebrating the beauty of the Warnor’s Theater era and creating a special destination for their customers.
Stay Tuned on Instagram
Following Gelateria del Centro on Instagram is a must for staying updated on their events and promotions. They’re currently offering holiday family photos with their festive décor and Vespa, and Santa is slated to visit on December 7th!
In conclusion, Gelateria del Centro is more than just a gelato shop; it’s a journey back in time, a celebration of quality and taste, and a new jewel in Downtown Fresno’s crown. Whether you’re a local or just passing through, don’t miss the chance to experience this delightful slice of history.
