Getting the whole family involved with healthy meals is Timaree Hagenburger’s mission. Sometimes it’s difficult for people who cook for their kids or even for their aging parents to get their family’s support and cooperation, and that’s where she comes in.
Timaree will be in Fresno for a free cooking demonstration and talk Saturday, Jan. 6. She’ll even have her kids with her to show how to make nutritious food fun for the whole family. Believe me, this is a demo you don’t want to miss.
Time to get serious about our collective health
Timaree is the real deal. She is a registered dietitian with a master’s degree in public health, as well as a certified exercise physiologist through the American College of Sports Medicine. She hosts regular segments on the California Farm Bureau’s show California Bountiful, which airs locally on KVPT channel 18 at 11:30 a.m. on Sundays. She is a recognized speaker at national conferences on food and nutrition, and author of the cookbook The Foodie Bar Way: One Meal. Lots of Options. Everyone’s Happy . She is a full-time nutrition professor at Cosumnes River College with the Plant-Based Nutrition & Sustainable Agriculture certificate program. She is also a regular guest on cardiologist and Iron Man Triathlete Dr. Jami Dulaney’s popular podcast.
It’s time to get serious about our health, Central San Joaquin Valley. As a region we’re not doing well at all. If we went in for a collective physical, we’d have obesity, heart disease, diabetes, asthma, fatty liver.
And this next statement will get me into some trouble, but I’d be happy to back it up. Childhood obesity is child abuse. Maybe not legally (yet), but here’s my argument: Adults are in charge of feeding children. Adults are in charge of making sure kids can exercise and play. Adults are in charge of the televisions, the computers, and the games. Adults can do whatever the heck they want, but it is up to all of us to keep our kids safe from harm and this includes obesity, diabetes, and associated metabolic problems.

Look, if Jason Farris can lose 135 pounds through making healthier choices, and I can completely turn around my health, you can too. Start with bringing the family down to this free demo and talk. Get a little inspiration to carry you forward. Share your successes. Listen to some podcasts. Follow some people on social media to stay motivated. Your progress will help to encourage others.
Also, I’d like to thank the Fresno County Department of Public Health for sponsoring this event. Government agencies can move slowly, but our local health department is helping to do some really innovative things like hosting this event. It’s easy to complain about government (I do it quite often) but when they do things well we need to acknowledge them. So when you are at this event, please thank them for working to improve our community’s health!
