Diamond Dogs season starts with Alumni Game
The Bulldog Baseball Team’s 56-game schedule features 36 home games, providing for plenty of opportunity for the Red Wave to get to know these Bulldogs.
The Diamond Dogs kick things off with an exhibition game Saturday, Feb. 10 at 2:05 p.m. It’s the annual Alumni Game at Pete Beiden Field where the current Bulldogs face the greats from years past. The Alumni Game is free to attend.
The ‘Dogs’ regular season starts Friday, Feb. 16, when they host Big 10 opponent Michigan State. “We have a lot of questions that can start getting answered right out of the gate,” says Fresno State head coach Mike Batesole. “After having one of the nation’s top offenses last season, we will have a lot of new faces in the lineup this season. Michigan State has an excellent pitching staff and will give us a quality gauge to elevate our strengths and weaknesses from.”
The Bulldog Baseball Team is made up of a lot of young players—only four members have been on the team more than three years.
Fresno State Softball starts season in Arizona
The Fresno State Softball Team kicks off the 2018 season on the road. They’ll open against Oregon at the Kajikawa Classic on Feb. 9 in Tempe, AZ. There are 13 returning players and 12 newcomers.
“We have a strong schedule that will challenge our returners and newcomers early,” says head coach Linda Garza. “It’s a great opportunity to figure out things and prepare everyone for conference play. This group is eager to learn, wants to get better, and came here to win.”
The Fresno State Softball Team has made three straight trips to the NCAA Regionals and have won at least 30 games for the last 36 seasons.
Coming up on March 24, the Bulldogs will honor their alumni and pay tribute to the 1998 NCAA National Championship team prior to the Bulldogs home game against Colorado State.
