Just about every little girl dreams of being a ballerina at one time or another while growing up. Sure, there are exceptions, but associations of tutus and pointe shoes with girlhood are ubiquitous. For all the little girls out there with ballet dreams, few take the them to the next level. In that respect, 16-year-old Sine Chan-Golston is the exception. The poised teen is well on her way to becoming as successful a ballerina as she chooses to be.
Sine is a performer with the Central California Ballet. In conjunction with the Lively Arts Foundation, the company will present its version of the “The Nutcracker” this weekend. A seasonal favorite in the Valley, Central California Ballet’s version is different from others in that it incorporates the character of the Mouse Queen from the original E.T.A. Hoffmann story…to be played this year by Sine.
Described on the Lively Arts Foundation’s website as “vengeful,” the ballerina playing the Mouse Queen seems anything but. Check out the high schooler talk about her ballet beginnings, future goals and why she doesn’t mind not having much free time.
If you haven’t seen “The Nutcracker” yet this year, here’s your chance. The Central California Ballet will perform three shows this weekend at the Saroyan Theatre in downtown Fresno. The schedule is as follows:
Saturday, December 13 – 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
Sunday, December 14 – 2 p.m.
