Art and pets. That’s what Corrine Bell’s Fresno home is filled with. Bell is one of an ever growing group of creatives leaving their mark—whether it be in ink, paint or other medium—on the local art scene. Having recently embraced her identity as an artist, after years of being pulled between her passion and the expectations of others, Bell not only opened herself up to art by establishing the Folk Studio, but opened up her home to artists and art lovers alike.
For three months, Bell’s home near Fresno High—which she shares with her husband, three dogs and a cat—served as an Art Hop gallery location, showcasing prints, sculptures, clothing and paintings by Bell and other artists. Ever a champion for collaboration, Bell is now working with the owners of Mia Cuppa in the Tower District to make the popular coffee house a space for art classes, flea markets and local music.
Now that she’s embraced her artist self, Bell is on a roll. And there’s no telling what impact she’ll have on the Fresno art scene. Ultimately, Bell and her husband have a grand vision. One “that seems like total dreamland right now,” she says, of owning a ranch property in Healdsburg, near Sonoma, where they operate a gallery and teach art classes. So, Fresno may not have Bell forever, but we’ll happily take all that she creates while she’s here.
Ever the non-flaky, non-narcissistic artist/person that she is, Bell sent me an e-mail the day after our interview asking me to please include something about her brother,Tyler Attenhofer, whom she says has been, and always will be, “the beginning and end of everything I am!”
She continued: “He inspired me in art, drove me to push myself and inadvertently changed who I am forever! He is my hero, my inspiration and the driving force in my art! He is the reason I am who I am.”
