When it comes to outdoors family events I typically have a list that I like to use as a gauge an event before heading out in order to prep myself for a day out with my family of 7.
In my experience the recipe for a great family fun day includes a little dash of….Outdoor play time, fun for the kids, good food, great venue, exercise and if it includes our dogs I give it a big two thumbs up!
With this list in hand I’d like to take you on a quick preview of one of the best events to be found in FresYes.
Drumroll please………
The 15th Wiggle Waggle Walk and Furry 5k.
Presented by the Valley Animal Center at the Fresno State Maple Mall October 4th starting at 7am this interactive run is one of many that have popped up in and around FresYes but coming into its 15th year its the granddaddy of the pup runs and I’d like to call it the best if there is a vote to be taken. The Valley Animal Center may not have invented the pup run model but they have it down to a science with everything a lover of dogs, the outdoors and family fun could want.
You can sign up to do an 2-mile walk or 5K with or without your canine companion (www.valleyanimal.org/walk) for $30 now or $35 day of. There will be a festival, food, venders, photo booths for you and your pets, games, demonstrations, skill and trick contests and even a raffle. We could stop right there and call this event done, right?
I mean what else could the Valley Animal Shelter need to do in order to really up the ante and provide FresYes with an event better than the Wiggle?
Well let me tell you if I may……
This year for the first time they have invited local rescues and shelters to turn this outdoor event into an adoption day. So maybe you normally run stag and don’t have a 4 legged running partner and are not the personal ad type. All you need to do is come out and do the run/walk, stay for the Free festival, eat – drink and be merry, enjoy FresYes and then take the time to go meet some great people and wonderful future pets. As a man who adopted a family member from the Valley Animal Center I’d like to say it just may change your life for the better as well as saving a life in the process.
Be someone’s super hero.
