There are plenty of races, runs, and walks taking place around our area over the next month. Some are fundraisers for local charities.

Run for Water 2-mile walk and 5K run—River Park, Fresno
When: Saturday, April 7
Cost: $25 (Prices increase 3/27)
The Aquarius Aquarium Institute is the group behind the Fresno Aquarium project. Proceeds from this race will go towards building an aquarium in Fresno. Following the run, stay for the free Water Planet Adventure Day. There will be activities for children, including a living California tide pool touch tank.
California Classic Weekend—Fresno
When: Saturday, April 7 and Sunday, April 8
Cost:
• Half marathon, $90
• 5K, $45
• 100- and 60-mile bike race, $85
• 35-mile bike race, $35 (Prices increase 4/1)
Cyclists look forward to this race each year. Two thousand riders will pedal across a closed freeway, Highway 168! The bike portion takes place on Saturday; Sunday is for runners. Three thousand racers will pound the pavement through the Fresno Chaffee Zoo. The half-marathon finishes at Chukchansi Park.
Run with the Heroes Timed 5K and Untimed Awareness Walk—Madera
When: Sunday, April 8
Cost:
• 5K, $40
• Walk, $25
Become a superhero and help families at Valley Children’s Hospital. Proceeds from this race benefit the George’s Pass program, which helps create a better experience for children with autism.
Run for the Children 5K—Kearney Park, Fresno
When: Sunday, April 8
Cost:
• Adults, $25
• Kids (6-10), $15
• Under 5, $5
This race benefits Break the Silence, which raises public awareness of child abuse.
KAMB Family Fun Run 5K & 10K and 1-mile Family Walk—Woodward Park, Fresno
When: Saturday, April 14
Cost:
• 5K/10K, $25
• 1-mile, $20 (Prices increase 4/1)
Are you a fan of 101.5FM? The Christian radio station known as Celebration Radio is holding a fundraising race. Racers will receive a t-shirt and gift bag.
Mop-Op Fun Run 5K–Coursegold
When: Sunday, April 15
Cost: $30
Say thank you to fire crews by taking part in this inaugural race. It’s taking place as part of Wildland Firefighter Hootenanny weekend. All proceeds benefit the Wildland Firefighter Foundation.
Cross the River Run 2-mile and 10K—Woodward Park, Fresno
When: Sunday, April 15
Cost:
• Adults, $35.
• Kids, $20 (Prices increase 4/15)
The Kiwanis Club of the Madera Ranchos is hosting this family-friendly race that benefits the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
McKenzie Preserve Half Marathon, 10K, 5K and Kids’ Fun Run—Auberry Road
When: Saturday, April 21
Cost:
• Half, $70
• 10K, $45
• 5K, $35
• Kids, $5
This race benefits the Sierra Foothill Conservancy, a non-profit land trust.
