A dark FresYes night is swiftly turned from a blanket of darkness scattered with stars into a panorama of color and the booming sounds of pyrotechnics.
Rockets explode into the summer night as our flag flies below while many of us sit back and watch with eyes of wonder.
This can only mean one thing.
Its the 4th of July.
Growing up in Dinuba we had no fireworks shows, we had to travel to Reedley and watch the program at the high school. Then for may years the options became almost limitless with shows all up and down the valley at schools, parks or in front of our homes.
Today though due to the economy and severe drought conditions the options are once again a slimmer group to pick from if you want to get out and enjoy our Nations birthday.
Clovis High School still has the long-standing Valley traditional show at the football stadium and if you want to be a part of the blanket and lawn chair crowd I cant think of a better way to spend the evening with the family.
I though, I’m not quite the guy who wants to just lay back and watch. I tend to look for ways to multi task my way though life and because of that my family and I will be downtown at Grizzlies Stadium for some baseball and fireworks.
Now I do know they do fireworks all year-long at the Grizzlies games but lets face it there is only one Independence Day, one 4th of July and there will only ever be one America the great.
As a lover of the outdoors, baseball, FresYes, park food and my family, I couldn’t help but make this as the go to choice for our family outing this year.
From the crack of the bat to the boom of the fireworks I’m expecting nothing short of an amazing night with the view of Luftenburgs in front of me and the cool breeze behind, a chilly glass of beer in one hand and the warm leather of my baseball glove in the other.
My family, my FresYes friends, my city, my love of the outdoors and my favorite team in town…………all I need is a nice slice of apple pie.
Be safe, have fun and remember why we honor this day. America, Happy Birthday.

Great read! The first place Grizzlies are doing so great this year! I’ll be there too – but will be watching the fireworks from Tioga Sequoia Beer garden, just across from the stadium. 🙂

Love me some Tioga Sequoia Beer on a hot summer night (heck I love it anytime)
