How’s your stress level lately? What about pain? Struggling to get quality sleep? If any of these areas have been bothersome for you lately, you may greatly enjoy a visit to True Rest Float Spa in NE Fresno.
I had seen images and video of True Rest on Instagram for some time, but I had not yet taken the leap to make an appointment. I wasn’t exactly sure what to expect, but when my therapist suggested I might really enjoy a float therapy session I decided it was the nudge I needed to give it a go.
True Rest’s Float therapy consists of making an appointment to enjoy floating in a private pod filled with water and 1,000 lbs. of Epsom salts. The salt causes your body to be very buoyant (like the Dead Sea) with no effort, giving you a feeling of weightlessness. The water is kept sparkling clean through a dual filtration system, and at body temperature. The pod itself is generously sized (my over 6 foot tall husband was able to float comfortable with his arms extended to his sides and overhead) and there is a lid that allows you to determine if you would like to float in the dark for a fully immersive experience void of disturbances of life outside the pod – or if you prefer to leave it open, that choice is totally yours to make.

Inside the pod there are also speakers for music (which you can choose to have or not) and lights, which you can control and adjust the color of or turn off at your pleasure. The pods are located in private rooms that each contain their own showers, and guests are required to shower off before entering the pod. Spa slippers, towels, a floating head rest, ear plugs, shower gel, shampoo, conditioner, a blow dryer and toiletries for after your float are all provided and readily available to make before and after your float a smooth and easy process.

Float appointments are 1 hour in length, and following your appointment, you have access to the “Oasis” – a lounge area outside of the float rooms that offers teas, water, journals and coloring books for relaxing and reflecting post-float, and an oxygen bar that’s available to first time guests or spa members.

A one-hour float costs $89, but is available for $45 for first time guests. A variety of memberships are available that allow members to float 1 or more times monthly, at a discounted rate. Memberships can even be split between two members, and any floats that are unused can be rolled into a future month.
Float therapy has been studied by prestigious health organizations including The Cleveland Clinic, which found that floating can be associated with decreased levels of stress, anxiety, muscle tension, and chronic pain. It can also improve positive thought processes and levels of optimism, sleep quality, and possibly even improve creativity and athletic performance.

Though it may seem intimidating to consider getting into a float pod at first, those who try it will quickly discover they are very much in control of their experience and what degree of sensory deprivation they would like to experience.
Of note: Those with certain skin disorders that cause broken skin, or anyone with cuts, insect bites, or other skin level wounds will want to wait for healing or possibly avoid floating, as unfortunately the level of salt in the water can cause painful stinging. Minor cuts and scrapes should not hold a person back however and can be easily coated with petroleum jelly (provided on site) to make for a comfortable floating experience.
If floating sounds like a great addition to your personal self-care routine, you can make an appointment at True Rest online.
