One type of business I always get excited to see open in Fresno is a good breakfast restaurant. While we have some great ones, they tend to get quite busy, especially on the weekends, leading to a good wait at times – and when you’re hungry, you’re hungry – am I right?
So of course you can imagine my attention was piqued when Instagram fed me a sponsored post from a new restaurant that had just opened a week prior in Fresno, offering French, Mediterranean and American-style breakfast/brunch and lunch! Zaatar is Fresno’s newest breakfast spot, and it opened its doors just 2 weeks ago but it’s already impressing diners and attracting repeat customers.
I had the pleasure of enjoying a delicious first (of what I anticipate will be many) meals at Zaatar with a dear friend last week, and I’d love to share with you all the reasons I think you’ll enjoy dining there as well.
Zaatar is located on the northeast corner of Shepherd and Cedar, tucked in the back corner of the shopping center near Papi’s Mexican Grill. When you enter, you’re greeted by a beautiful dining room featuring soft natural light, warm but light neutral tones, greenery and beautiful pottery and décor. The spacious restaurant offers bar seating in the front as well as two dining spaces with plenty of tables to serve quite a few guests at once.
The menu at Zaatar is really fun because you can try traditional Mediterranean and Lebanese style breakfast dishes like Fatteh and the “Lebanese Spirit”, French-inspired pastries, or traditional (& modern) American favorites like benedicts and avocado toasts. There’s sure to be something for everyone in your party, even the picky eaters and children with “less refined” palettes.
My friend and I ordered the Caramelized Banana and Chocolate French Toast which was made with fresh, pillowy brioche bread, the Lebanese Sprit which was like a large, soft, pillowy pita dough, sandwiching a delicious melted cheese interior, and topped with thyme, sesame seeds, sumac, tomatoes, cucumbers and arugula. We also ordered two sides of their cilantro garlic breakfast potatoes (they were HUGE, one side was easily shareable, but honestly, we were thrilled to take some leftovers home because they were so good!).
Zaatar offers a great coffee and chai bar as well – my friend, who loves chai, said their spiced chai was the best she’d ever had. (She even told the owner such, and he proudly shared that he made it himself and asked permission to give her a hug!) This level of warmth and service was present throughout our time at Zaatar from the moment we were seating to when we left. The prices were very fair for the quality and quantity of the food, and everything was incredibly fresh and flavorful.
If you’re looking for a beautifully aesthetic location with amazing food and service to plan your next breakfast, brunch or lunch – I highly recommend making your way to Zaatar! You won’t regret it.
