Local Skateparks
I have two children, one boy and one girl. My son’s personality is so much more different than my daughter’s. Having a son has opened up a whole new world to me. I’ve been introduced to new things such as Star Wars (which I still have yet to watch any of the movies), sword fights, gunbattles, roughhousing, and having dirt everywhere. I find boogers in places they don’t belong, and when my son passes gas, he thinks it’s HILARIOUS!
Having a son is definitely different than having a daughter.
Another difference? Being involved in activities that I know nothing about-like skating. My son got a scooter for Christmas. He loves that thing. He also has a skateboard that my uncle gave him. He has yet to figure out how to ride that, but I’m hopeful he’ll get it soon. Anyway, one weekend my son’s dad took him to a skatepark to ride his scooter. The next weekend my son wanted me to take him to the skatepark as well. We have a skatepark that’s right by my house, so I agreed to take him. I mistakenly thought that I would just show up, bring a book to read, and let my son roll around on his scooter for the morning. Yeah, no. Turns out that the skatepark by my house doesn’t allow scooters. Who knew??!! (There was someone manning the area, so we had to abide by the stated rules.) This meant I was on the hunt for a skatepark that allowed scooters. I then headed over to Cary Park, by the mall. Turns out they don’t allow scooters either (but do allow BMX bikes). There wasn’t anyone there at the time, so I let my son scooter around for a bit. However, since the park isn’t really meant for scooters, my son wasn’t having much fun. I then had to figure out where to go next. I Googled a bit more, and finally found the place where his dad took him. We then headed over to Letterman Park in Clovis.
Letterman Park is located at 908 Villa Ave, Clovis, 93612 (On the west of the street, between Barstow and Bullard.) The last time I was at this park was probably a good 10 years ago? I don’t remember the skate area being open then, but then again I only had my daughter with me, and we didn’t pay attention to that kind of stuff.
This is the perfect park for youngsters with scooters. I don’t know the rules of etiquette when it comes to BMX bikers, skateboarders, and scooter riders, but everyone there seemed to be getting along just fine. (Actually, bikes are not allowed in the skatepark area at Letterman Park.)
The park is not just for skaters either. They have a nice play area, open grassy field, and a picnic awning.
The parking lot is small, so if you go on the weekend, you may want to get there early. (Skatepark open from 10-9.) I ended up finding a nice spot under a tree to read, my son had fun scootering around, and the weather was perfect first thing in the morning. With summer vacation right around the corner I know where I’ll be taking my son often. Seriously, I can’t say enough great things about this park.
