In case you haven’t heard yet, there’s free ice cream to be had at the new River Park Häagen-Dazs shop today (Saturday the 29th) from 11 a.m. to midnight – at least for the first 500 customers! The new locally franchised shop is celebrating its grand opening all day long with giveaways, coupons and even a contest to win free ice cream for a year.
The cool thing about Häagen-Dazs is that they’ve really taken ice cream that could easily be totally artificial or over-produced and elevated it to another level. For example, five of their ice creams only have five ingredients: cream, milk, sugar and egg yolks – plus chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, coffee or green tea. They have never used any gums, stabilizers, or artificial ingredients. And this year, they have started removing GMOs from their ice creams as well. You can find out more on the Häagen-Dazs website.
But the best part, of course, is that all of this makes Häagen-Dazs ice cream taste amazing. Make sure you get a few samples when you visit (the cheerful employees are more than happy to oblige)! My personal favorite is Caramel Cone (finishing off a pint I got at the shop as I’m typing). Another great new flavor for caramel lovers is Sweet Cream Coffee Caramel, made with small-batch chicory coffee caramel from CC Made in Berkeley. They put a twist on an old favorite with Chocolate Chocolate Chip. And if you’re like me and could skip right past Pumpkin Spice season and go to Christmas, then Häagen-Dazs is definitely the place for you. They’ve already started serving up Peppermint Bark, and it is delicious!!
In addition to ice cream in a cup or cone (which, by the way even a kids size seems HUGE), you have all sorts of choices on how you can try Häagen-Dazs many flavors. There’s chocolate-dipped waffle cones, chocolate AND sprinkles cones, shakes and dazzler sundaes. One thing I really can’t wait to try is the ice cream cakes. There’s a freezer inside Häagen-Dazs where you can grab some yummy-looking creations in a hurry. You can also custom-order ice cream cakes at the shop for your special occasions.
You can check it all out at the Häagen-Dazs grand opening event today. The shop is located between Jamba Juice and Color Me Mine, across from Edwards theater. Grab a few friends and go get some free ice cream!
