Last fall, local fans of the hit TV series “Gilmore Girls” got a special treat when Fresno coffee shop Yellow Mug Coffee was transformed for a day into the famous Luke’s Diner from the show. Hundreds of people, myself included, stood in line in the early morning; some for hours.
Although it was an awesome experience, part of me was amused I was willing to wait for 80 minutes simply for a free cup of coffee in a paper cup branded with the Luke’s logo and a picture with a replica of the Luke’s Diner sign. I mean, we didn’t even get the life-sized cutout of Luke that some coffee shops got!
Well, if you’re one of those fans who waited in line with me or was bummed to miss the whole thing entirely, you’re going to want to pay attention now, because Yellow Mug Coffee has something even more exciting in store.
Luke himself is coming in a matter of days. That’s right—actor and musician Scott Patterson is stopping in Fresno with his SMITHRADIO Atomic Love Acoustic Coffee House U.S. Tour, and you can see him in person yourself.
Two Concerts, Meet-and-Greets & a Chance to Win Coffee with Scotty
For a ticket price of $20, you can see Scott perform up close at a show on July 17. There will be two performances for 50 fans each, one at 2 p.m. and one at 6 p.m. SMITHRADIO’S assistant, Elaine Espinosa, says fans “are going to feel like they know [Scott] by the time they leave,” because of the intimacy of the concert, which will feature Scott and one other guitarist.
Want to get even more up close and personal? You can buy a separate ticket for a meet-and-greet taking place after each show, which includes a selfie with Scott, an autographed 8×10 photo and the opportunity to get some of your own “Gilmore” merchandise signed if you would like. The tickets are $50 each, and there are 100 available for both 3:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., which means you have a chance to attend the meet-and-greet even if the concert tickets sell out.
Scott is even running a special contest called #CoffeeWithScottyP, where one lucky fan will be randomly selected to have coffee with him after each show. Each ticket purchase (concert or meet-and-greet) gets you an entry.
And don’t confuse Scott for his grumpy on-screen counterpart, Luke. According to Elaine, “[Scott’s] a great guy. He’s really down-to-earth,” and is excited to interact with his fans.
I believe her, of course, but I’ll soon be able to report to you personally whether this is true, as FresYes has scored an interview with Scott to talk about his upcoming show and perhaps even some things “Gilmore.” Look for that later this week!
Yellow Mug a Hub For Local Events & Gatherings
This event is another coup for Yellow Mug Coffee, which is a really great coffee shop. Located on the southwest corner of Champlain and Perrin, it’s an awesome place with local owners and a real community feel.
In addition to a multitude of flavored coffee drinks, Yellow Mug offers cold brew, smoothies, bagels, breakfast and lunch sandwiches, pastries from local bakery Le Parisien and, most recently, vegetarian and vegan wraps from local company Rappit Up. Yellow Mug even has its own coffee blend made in San Francisco, and lattes are only $3 during Happy Hour from 2 to 6 p.m. on weekdays.
Yellow Mug Coffee continues to build its customer base with its unique events and offerings. In addition to Scott Patterson’s concerts, the coffee spot recently hosted a painting night with Color Me Mine. Coming up, County Supervisor Andreas Borgeas will be inviting constituents to have coffee with him at the café on August 17 at 7:30 a.m.
