Bulldog Stadium is the place to be this Saturday as Fresno State hosts Minnesota in the 2019 football home opener. Kick-off is at 7:30 PM, fans can start tailgating as early as 1:30 PM so get that game day menu ready!
This is the first time in program history that Minnesota will play in Fresno. The Dogs played on their turf last season. It was one of only two games Fresno State lost in 2018. Last year the Dogs won 12 games, the most ever in school history.
Coach Jeff Tedford is in his third season at Fresno State. Since taking over, the Bulldogs have gone 22-7.
The Bulldogs opened the 2019 season last weekend at USC. They lost 31-23, but kept it close despite having 13 players playing in their first game ever. It was the first start for senior quarterback Jorge Reyna. He finished with 344 yards and two touchdowns.
“No question. He will definitely build off of this,” said Tedford. “It was a great learning experience for his first time out, but I thought Jorge competed really well and really hard. He ran the ball and made some key plays for us with his legs. I think it is a great step for him to be under fire against a really good football team like USC.”
Reyna grew up in Southern California. He led Downey High to a CIF Championship as a sophomore and played at West Los Angeles College before transferring to Fresno State in 2017. He has already graduated with this bachelor’s degree and is now working on his master’s.
“I’ve always had a tough journey,” Reyna said, following the loss at USC. “It’s never been easy for me with family life, football, and academics. I just wanted to show the Red Wave that I can fight, no matter what happens and lead.”
Fresno State will play six regular-season home games. Season tickets start at just $99. They have mini-plans that include the Minnesota game. There are group ticket discounts and tailgate space available. Single-game tickets too! There’s no reason to miss any of the live-action.
Fans can purchase tickets at the Bulldog ticket office, which is located on the Northeast corner of the Save Mart Center or by calling 559-278-3647. You can also buy tickets online at GoBulldogs.com
Fresno State Athletics Director Terry Tumey is doing his part to help build Bulldog spirit. One way is with #FSRunToVictory. Tumey has invited all-new Fresno State students to run across the brand new turf at Bulldog Stadium before the start of the game. Student’s wanting to participate need to meet near the student entrance, located in the southeast corner of the stadium, at 5:30 PM. They’ll receive free tacos, free shirts and free tickets to the game (while supplies last). They’ll Run to Victory, right before the teams take the field. Something else new for 2019, is the Pride of the Valley signs that have been popping up around the community. Fresno State hopes the buzz leads to more fans in the stands. Bulldog Stadium holds 40,727, so do your part and help pack the place.
