I think you’ve gotten a sense by now of the things that make me happy when I explore local stores for the blog. The main one? You don’t start your own business unless you have a passion, and I adore seeing that love for fashion in action.
And I genuinely hope that everyone has the opportunity to shop local when possible, whether you’re young or old (or whatever that totally vague range is in-between), whether you’re looking through a thrift store or looking to buy designer. I tilted more towards the latter last weekend when I went shopping at Pavilion West Shopping Center at Bullard and West in Fresno.
I had never been there to do anything except go to Maroo. (Excellent sushi, by the way. Highly recommend!) But when I went there to check out the new Posh (which moved from its longtime location in Fig Garden last fall), I discovered that there several great stores there, carrying things that are hard to find locally!
One great place is Posh, of course. Their new shop is significantly smaller than the old store, but it still carries lots of, you guessed it, posh stuff, including designer clothes, vintage bags and even furs. Now, I can’t imagine a situation where I will ever need a fur coat, especially in Fresno! But, again, this is what made me happy: It’s nice that there’s a place to shop local if you’re in the market for one.
But Posh doesn’t just cater to the Vogue set. They also have a great selection of prom dresses for the upcoming season. In fact, Posh is holding a prom dress fashion show on March 29th from 12 to 2 p.m. Every girl who attends will get a raffle ticket for a chance to win their own prom dress! You can find more information here.
Another store at Pavilion West which I absolutely fell in love with was Nonnie’s House. This was the store that reminded me how nice it was to visit with local women who have a passion for fashion (hey, look, I accidentally rhymed)! Nonnie’s House was started by Carmela Liberta (known as Nonnie to her grandchildren) and her daughter Maryellen Willis in Old Town Clovis, where it’s original location still exists as well. As Nonnie’s House says, its retail experience is “filled with warmth and hospitality,” including coffee and Camela’s homemade Italian cookies! (Fun fact: Carmela and her husband are also the owners of Luna’s Pizzeria in Old Town Clovis.)
To me, Nonnie’s delivered on its promise. The sales clerk was SO friendly and helpful to all the women in the store. She helped me pick out a beautiful necklace to wear to an upcoming event, and was so knowledgeable about everything in the boutique. The piece I bought was from Brighton, a designer brand that has sort of fallen by the wayside in recent years, but which I seriously became a fan of again after seeing all the adorable things at Nonnie’s House. Nonnie’s House is one of only a couple places in Fresno where you can buy Brighton purses and jewelry.
I feel like everyone gravitates toward Fig Garden Village or some of the stores in Riverpark when they’re looking to shop upscale. But honestly I was surprised by how much Pavilion West had to offer. The two boutiques I wrote about were just a couple of several choices for fashion, home decor, children’s clothing and more! So check it out the next time you need something a little fancy!
